MINUTES
November 4, 2014 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair, Trisha Gilmore, at 5:00 pm.
Attendance: Commissioners — Cynthia Chesak, Brian Kennedy, Steve Mullet, Trisha Gilmore
Student Representative — Nandina Cengic
Staff — Stephanie Gardner — Parks and Recreation
Guests: Jerri Plumbridge — SeedArts
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the October 7, 2014 meeting were unanimously approved.
Citizen Comment: There were no Citizen Comments
Business Items:
SeedArts Presentation: Jerri Plumridge from SeedArts introduced artists who are developing public art
that will be installed at Tukwila Village. Andersen Studios presented their concept for "Twin Sculptures ",
and Mary Coss presented her concept for "Waters of Welcome." Each also provided materials and
overall explanations of their concepts. Ms. Plumridge provided an overview of Stu Schechter's Clock
Tower. Feedback from the Commission was positive, the Commission will further discuss the artwork at
their December meeting to provide feedback to SeedArts.
Arts 1% Process Update: Stephanie Gardner informed the Commission that she will be distributing 1%
for the Arts processes that other cities have employed at the December or January meeting. She is
currently gathering policy and process implementation plans from other cities.
Piano: Stephanie informed the Commission that staff would be presenting information on painting the
stand -up piano that is used for piano lessons. The piano is currently stained however staff would like to
have it painted so that it can be utilized more in public spaces for impromptu playing by community
center users and guests.
Holiday Giving Program: Stephanie provided an overview of the upcoming Holiday Giving Program
and extended an invitation to the Commission to participate. Trisha Gilmore extended an invitation to the
City to shop for family literacy games through her store, she can offer games at wholesale pricing plus
the cost of shipping.
Other
Holiday Lights: Stephanie distributed information on the Tukwila Holiday Lights contest.
Community Pride: The community Pride monition form deadline has been extended into December.
Commissioners requested a copy of the Art Commission 2015 Budget for the December meeting. The
Commissioners requested a presentation from the Rainier Symphony in early 2015.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm.
