PARKS COMMISSION
MINUTES
September 17, 2014 5:30pm Tukwila Community Center
Call to Order: Parks Committee Chairperson Sean Albert called the meeting to order at 5:34pm.
Attendance: Commissioners — Sean Albert, Don Scanlon, Alice Russell, Joanne McManus, Hassan Abdi, Julie Lee
Staff — Dave Johnson
Approval of Minutes: Alice Russell moved to approve the minutes of the August 20, 2014 meeting. Joanne
McManus seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Business Items
A. Project Update —The Commission reviewed the Project Update included in the Agenda Packet.
B. DHP Phase 11 Design — Chair Sean Albert provided an update on the status of the design development on
the project, including budget review, wetland possibilities, and kiosk entrance.
C. Gully Gardens Update —The dedication sign has arrived. Staff showed the sign to the Commission and is
working the family to coordinate a date for the dedication event.
D. Park Rules Update — Staff informed the Commission that the draft update is still under review.
E. Department Update — Staff informed the Commission of department updates including upcoming
Community Heritage and Culture event, new brochure, department re -org, updated park map, and re-
launch of the Preschool program.
Other
The Commission discussed the remaining budget for 2014 and recognized that there are still items to come
forward, including costs for updated park map and the Gully Gardens dedication event. Don Scanlon moved that
remaining funds after these 2 items be split evenly to support the department's Halloween event and the Holiday
Giving Program. The motion was seconded by Hassan Abdi. The motion passed unanimously.
Adjournment: Joanne McManus moved to adjourn at 6:15pm. The motion was seconded by Julie Lee. The
motion passed unanimously.
