HomeMy WebLinkAboutTLAB 2014-10-07 MinutesTukwila Library Advisory Board (TLAB) Committee Minutes October 7, 2014 — Tukwila Community Center Attendance: Sharon Kidd (Vice Chair), Linda McLeod, Steve Miller (Chair), Gerie Ventura (Secretary) Staff: John Sheller (KCLS), Stephanie Gardner (Tukwila Parks & Recreation) Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:1 1pm. Approval of minutes: John corrected the number of KCLS artists to "120 artists ". It was moved by Steve and seconded by Linda to approve the June 3, 2014 minutes as corrected. Business Items: 1. John reported that there are 2 read -a -thons planned by the Teen Library Council (TLC) in the Fall as a dry -run October 19 -25, and in March. 2. KCLS Library Director search: 6 candidates were interviewed by the search committee. The top 3 were recommended to the KCLS Board of Directors. There will be public meetings and a meet and greet reception to meet them. The new director should start in early 2015. 3. KCLS Annual Advisory Board gathering is November 4 at the Auburn branch. They will review the 2015 proposed KCLS budget and library advisory board members will meet each other. 4. Stephanie reported that they are expecting around 500 children and family members at an October 30 event with a staff dress -up theme of "Seahawks fan ". They are looking to add more health and wellness opportunities with affordable healthy snack stations. This aligns with efforts the local libraries are doing with health and wellness. To support the expansion with toolkits — she requested $1,000. TLAB has a $5,000 budget from the city. It's a national program called 5 -2 -1 Sharon asked if the library is involved with this event and if volunteers are needed. Linda moved and Steve seconded to support this event with $1,000. The motion passed. Adjournment: It was moved by Steve to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Linda and the meeting was adjourned at 7:35pm. Tukwila Facilities Plan Presentation There was a presentation about the "Tukwila Facilities Needs Assessment & Feasibility Study ". They're a little over halfway through the study and wanted to share their process.
