Project Update
ISSUE
Provide an updated status of the CBD Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation & Andover Park W to
Andover Park E Sewer Repair Projects.
BACKGROUND
Two separate contracts were awarded last year that are related to the CBD Sanitary Sewer
Rehabilitation Project. One project will repair a collapsed sewer line and install a manhole in
Andover Park East and the second project will install 2,440 feet of Cured -In -Place -Pipe (CIPP)
sewer lining within a portion of the Commercial Business District (CBD). Both projects are part
of an effort to extend the life of deteriorating sewer lines within the CBD.
ANALYSIS
The R.L. Alia Company has repaired 66 feet of the collapsed sewer pipe near the railroad tracks
between APW and APE. After the line was repaired, the pipes were cleaned and video
inspected to determine the condition of the sewer pipes within the vicinity of the repair site. The
existing sewer lines outside of the repair area were found to have leaking gaskets at some of
the joints and damaged bottom portions where the pipe had deteriorated (videos of the sewer
line between APE and APW will be shown at Committee). Alia is now preparing for the insertion
of a manhole in Andover Park East south of Strander Blvd.
Michels Corporation will be performing the work of installing the CIPP sewer lining and is
currently cleaning and inspecting the sewer lines. The gasket leaks (noted above) will need to
be repaired prior to the insertions of the new sewer liner. A change order is currently being
prepared for Michels, but the cost is not known at this time.
