These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. (IFC 906.5) 23: A Type 1 hood shall be installed at or above all commercial cooking appliances and domestic cooking appliances used for commercial purposes that produce grease vapors. Each required commercial kitchen exhaust hood and duct system required by section 610 of the International Fire Code to have a Type 1 hood shall be protected with an approved automatic fire- extinguishing system installed in accordance with this code. (IFC 610.2, IFC 904.2.1 and 1FC 904.11) 24: Portable fire extinguishers shall be provided within a 30 - foot (9144 mm) travel distance of commercial - type cooking equipment. Cooking equipment involving vegetable or animal oils and fats shall be protected by a Class It: rated portable extinguisher. (IFC 904.11.8) 23: The total number of fire extinguishers required for a light hazard occupancy with Class A fire hazards is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3,000 sq. ft. of area. (IFC 906.3) (NFPA 10, 3-2.1) 26: An approved automatic fire- extinguishing system is required for this project. 27: All new automatic fire-extinguishing systems and all modifications to existing automatic fire - extinguishing systems shall have fire department review and approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. 28: No point in a building may exceed the maximum exit access travel distance listed in Chapter 10, section 1013, Table 1015.1 of the International Fire Code and International Building Code. 29: Minimum widths of corridors shall be maintained in accordance with Chapter 10 of the International Building Code and the International Fire Code. 30: Doors shall swing in direction of egress travel where serving an occupant load of 60 or more persons or a Group H occupancy. (IFC 1008.1.8.3 subsection 2.2) 32: The path of egress travel along a means of egress shall not be interrupted by any building element other than a means of egress component as specified in this chapter. Obstructions shall not be placed in the required width of a means of egress except projections permitted by this chapter. The required capacity of the means of egress system shall not be diminished along the path of egress travel (IFC 1003.6) 33: There can be no storage under stairs unless the following conditions are met. The walls and soffits within enclosed usable space under enclosed and unenclosed stairways shall be protected by 1 -hour fire- resistance -rated construction, or the fire- resistive rating of the stairway enclosure, whichever is greater. Access to the enclosed usable space shall not be directly from within the stair enclosure. There shall be no enclosed usable space under exterior exit stairways unless the space is completely enclosed in 1 -hour fire-resistance-rated construction. The open space under exterior stairways shall not be used for any purpose. (IFC 1019.1.8) 34: Exits and exit access doors shall be marked by an approved exit sign readily visible from any direction of egress travel. Access to exits shall be marked by readily visible exit signs in cases where the exit or the path of egress travel is not immediately visible to the occupants. Exit sign placement shall be such that no point in an exit access corridor is more than 100 feet (30,480 mm) or the listed viewing distance for the sign, whichever is less, from the nearest visible exit sign. (IFC 1011.1) 35: Every exit sign and d exit sign shall have plainly legible letters not less than 8 inches (152 mm) high with the principal strokes of the letters not less than 0.75 inch (19.1 mm) wide. The word "EXIT" shall have letters having a width not less than 2 inches (51 mm) wide except the letter "F', and the minimum spacing between letters shall not be less than 0.375 inch (9.5 mm). Signs larger than the minimum established in section 1011.5.1 of the International Fire Code shall have letter widths, strokes and spacing in proportion to their height. The word "EXIT' shall be in high contrast with the background and shall be clearly discernible when the exit sign illumination means is or is not energized. If an arrow is provided as part of the exit sign, the construction shall be such that the arrow direction cannot be readily changed. (IFC 1011.5.1) 36: Exit signs shall be illuminated at all times. To ensure continued illumination for a duration of not less than 90 minutes in case of primary power loss, the sign illumination means shall be connected to an emergency power system provided from storage batteries, unit equipment or on -site generator. (IFC 1006.1, 1006.2, 1006.3) 37: Each door in a means of egress from an occupancy of Group A or E having an occupant load of 100 or more and any occupancy of a Group H -1, H -2, H-3 or H -8 shall not be provided with latch or lock unless it is panic hardware or fire exit panic hardware on rated fire doors. (IFC 1008.1.9) 38: Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the occupancy load of the room or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Posted signs shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained by the owner or authorized agent. (IFC 1004.3) 39: Means of egress, including the exit discharge, shall be illuminated at all times the building space served by the means of egress is occupied. The means of egress illumination level shall not be less than 1 foot - candle (11 lux) at the floor level. The power supply for the means of egress illumination shall normally be provided by the premise's electrical supply. In event of a power failure an emergency power system shall provide power for a duration of not less than 90 minutes and shall consist of storage batteries, unit equipment or on -site generator. (IFC 1008.1, 1006.2, 1006.3) 40: Exits shall not pass through kitchens, storerooms, restrooms, closets or spaces used for similar purposes. (IFC 1013.2) 41: An approved automatic fire sprinkler extinguishing system is required for this project. (City Ordinance #2050) 42: All sprinkler system plans, calculations and the contractors Materials and Test Certificates submitted to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau must be stamped with the appropriate level of competency seal. (City Ordinance #2050) 44: All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department review and approval of drawings prior to installation or modification. New sprinkler systems and all modifications to sprinkler systems involving more than 50 heads shall have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk Insurers Kemper or any other representative designated and/or recognized by the City of Tukwila, prior to submittal to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance #2050) 48: Contact The Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests. (City Ordinances #2050 and #2061) 46: Sprinklers shall be installed under fixed obstructions over 4 feet (1.2 m) wide such as ducts, decks, open grate flooring, cutting tables, shelves and overhead doors. (NFPA 13- 8.6.8.3.3) 47: Maintain sprinkler coverage per N.F.P.A. 13. Addition/relocation of walls, closets or partitions may require relocating and/or adding sprinkler heads. (IFC 901.4) 48: A fire alarm system is required for this project. The fire alarm system shall meet the requirements of N.F.P.A. 72 and City Ordinance #2051. 49: Fire Department lock boxes shall be provided for access to all fire alarm panels and sprinkler risers. The appropriate key(s) for access shall be placed in the lockbox. Lockbox order forms must be obtained from the Tukwila Fire Department. The lockbox should be mounted so that it is readily visible and not over 60 inches high. (City Ordinance #2051) 80: Remote alarm annunciation indication is required if the control panel is not visible from the main entrance. (City Ordinance #2051) 51: Maintain square foot coverage of detectors per manufacturer's specifications in all areas including: closets, elevator shafts, top of stairwells, etc. (NFPA 72- 5.8.2.1) 62: The installation of wiring and equipment shall be in accordance with N.F.P.A. 70, Article 760, Fire Protective Signaling Systems. (NFPA 72 1.3.3) 83: Local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance #2051) 84: H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require auto - shutdown devices. These devices shall be separately zoned in the alarm panel and local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance #2051) 85: H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings shall be equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the power source of the air- moving equipment upon detection of smoke in the main return-air duct served by such equipment. Smoke detectors shall be labeled by an approved agency for air -duet installation and shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (IMC 606.1, 606.2.1) 86: Duct smoke detectors shall be capable of being reset from a single point near the alarm panel. (City Ordinance #2081) 87: Duct detectors shall send a supervisory signal only upon activation. (City Ordinance #2051) 58: Dedicated fire alarm system circuit breaker(s) shall be equipped with a mechanical lockout device. (NFPA 72 (4.4.1.4.2.1)) 89: Maintain automatic fire detector coverage per N.F.P.A. 72. (NFPA 70) 62: Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be marked with a plainly visible and legible sign stating "ELECTRICAL ROOM" or similar approved wording. (IFC 606.3.1) 63: In combustible construction, rue blocking and draftstopping shall be installed to cut off all concealed draft openings (both vertical and horizontal). (IBC 717.1) (IBC 717.2.2(a,b) 64: Walls of corridors serving an occupant load of 30 or more shall be of not less than one -hour fire resistive construction and the ceilings shall not be less than that required for a one-how fire resistive floor or roof system. (IBC 708.1(4)) (IBC 1016.1 Table 1016.1)) 66: Required fire resistive construction, including occupancy separations, area separation walls, exterior walls due to location on property, fire resistive requirements based on type of construction, draft stop partitions and roof coverings shall be maintained as specified in the Building Code and Fire Code and shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged, altered, breached, penetrated, removed or improperly installed. (IFC 703.1) 66: The maximum flame spread class of finish materials used on interior walls and ceilings shall not exceed that set forth in Table No. 803.5 of the International Building Code. 67: New and existing buildings shall have approved address numbers, building numbers or approved building identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numbers or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches (102mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7mm). (IFC 805.1) 68: There shall be no enclosed usable space under stairways in an exit enclosure, nor shall the open space under such stairways be used for any purpose. (IBC 318.2.4) 69: Tukwila City Ordinance #2047 provides that the required width of any fire apparatus road (fire lane) shall not be obstructed in any manner, including the parking vehicles.
