Partman@TukwilaWA.gov Winter /Spring 2015 Citizens' Police Academy To be held on Wednesdays, March 4 - May 20 from 6:30 to 9:00PM Tukwila Police Department A world -class police department delivering professional law enforcement service WHAT IS CITIZENS' ACADEMY? It's a 12- session program providing Tukwila residents and merchants with first -hand information about the operations of Tukwila's Police Department. This program is designed to strengthen working relationships vital to problem - solving and quality -of -life issues in our community. There is NO COST to attend this class. WHO CAN ATTEND? Applicants must be at least 16 years old, live or work in Tukwila, and have no felony convictions or out- standing warrants. All applicants are subject to a background check. A valid driver's license is required to participate in the emergency vehicle driving exercise. Class size is limited, and only those who pre- register will be permitted to attend. If you will be under 18 years of age at the beginning of the Academy, please call Chris Partman at 206 - 431 -2197. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? Police officers and other experts teach the session in their particular area of specialty. Topics include: • Criminal and civil law • Investigative procedures • Patrol procedures • Narcotics enforcement • 9 -1 -1 communications • Adult and juvenile courts • SWAT • Emergency vehicle operations • Firearms training - and more! Several hands -on sessions are planned so that participants have the opportunity to see first -hand what officers are exposed to on a daily basis. WHEN IS THE ACADEMY? Beginning March 4, 2015, the Academy classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:OOPM. Graduation will be on Wednesday, May 20. There will be one Saturday class (firearms and driving exercises) on a date to be determined and posted closer to the start of class. WHERE WILL THE CLASSES TAKE PLACE? Classes will be held at Foster High School, located at 4242 South 144th Street in Tukwila.
