GENERAL BU
Civil Service Rules

Deputy Police
Johnston called the meeting to order.
Jim Haggerton, Mayor
Civil
Bruce
The Chair asked if there were any corrections needed for
the January 5th Commission Meetiniz minutes. Dawn
not in attendance at the
January meeting. The minutes were corrected to remove
her name form the list of attendees.
Commissioners reviewed the current rule language in Rule
IX affecting the life and revocation of eligibility lists.
Commissioners discussed the need to add language that
would address the Commission's ability to terminate a list
early (prior to the one year mark) due to the depletion of
the list (less than 3 candidates remaining on the list). The
Civil Service Examiner presented sample language from
other Cities that specifically stated that a list could be
terminated due to list depletion. Dawn inquired if the
termination would occur automatically or if it would be
based on the discretion of the Chief Further discussion
ensued. Consensus existed that the past practice, legal
guidance provided by Stephen DiJulio, and current rule
language was sufficient to allow for the termination of a list
early due to depletion. Commissioners did not find that
there was an urgent need to add language to the existing
Rules at this time.
