Meeting Minutes
February 24, 2015 — 5:30 p.m. — Foster Conference Room, 6300 Building
PRESENT
Councilmembers: Dennis Robertson, Chair; Verna Seal, De'Sean Quinn
Staff: Frank Iriarte, Robin Tischmak, Pat Brodin, Gail Labanara, Laurel Humphrey
Guests: David Della, Waste Management
CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Robertson called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

A. Waste Management 2014 Annual Report
David Della, Public Sector Manager from Waste Management, presented the 2014 Annual
Report to the City of Tukwila. The report includes information on sustainability goals, strategic
community investments, public education and outreach, and year end statistics. Staff indicated
that Waste Management is consistently responsive to City requests and needs, and that
communication efforts are reinforced via a monthly operations meeting attended by City and
Waste Management staff. Committee members asked clarifying questions and affirmed the
importance of robust community outreach. Mr. Della distributed samples of current educational
materials. INFORMATION ONLY.
B. Solid Waste Management Update
Staff provided an update on the following solid waste and recycling matters:
• 2015 Tukwila Clean -up /Community Events Support
• Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan
• Local Hazardous Waste Management Program Rate Change

III. MISCELLANEOUS
Committee Chair Robertson noted that another Washington City, Kirkland, recently adopted a single
use plastic bag ban and asked fellow committee members if they were interested in receiving
information about this issue. Councilmembers Seal and Quinn were not opposed but noted this is a
large topic and impacts to staff time should be considered. Staff will consider a plan to meet this request
and report back with an overview.
