• Asked the Chief s opinion about body cameras. The chief asked for the opinion of the
group first. There were mixed feelings, from the members, from the fact that the camera
information would often support officers in complaints to it could put even more pressure
on officers to some privacy concerns.
• The Chief s comments were:
• The cameras might not always be recording
• Often suspects act better when they know they are being filmed
■ In many uses the camera footage supports the officers' version.
Public disclosure requests can be costly and take a lot of staff time
■' Privacy concerns regarding victims and others filmed at crime scenes
■ There is some talk of putting forward legislation to restrict public disclosure of
body camera recordings to only involved parties in a situation.
