Adjourn City of Tukwila the city of opportunity, the community of choice Dear Allentown Residents, In the fall of 2014, City staff conducted the City's first ever door-to-door community canvass, with a focus on your neighborhood, Allentown. Over a seven -week period, City staff visited 389 homes and were able to speak with 124 residents. The City undertook this project in order to hear directly from Allentown about key issues and concerns facing residents. I want to share with you the major findings of the community assessment, and outline the next steps that the City will undertake to address some of the issues identified by Allentown residents. I am also inviting you to a neighborhood meeting to further discuss the findings of the survey and how we can work together to make Allentown an even better neighborhood! The neighborhood meeting will take place on: Thursday, May 7 at the Tukwila Community Center,12424 42nd Avenue South We will open the doors at 6:ooPM and provide refreshments as well as an opportunity to talk one-on-one with City staff. At 6:30PM we will provide an overview of the survey results and then break into small groups to collaboratively address the three priorities that Allentown residents identified during the survey. I hope you will join your neighbors and representatives from the City in this interactive effort to find solutions to some of the issues raised in the canvass. Inside these pages, you will find information on the data collected in Allentown. There were three issues that emerged as the top priorities for the neighborhood: • Addressing the look of the neighborhood - i.e. overgrown yards, homes not being maintained; • Noise impacts from Boeing Airport, the intermodal rail yard and trucks; and • Speeding and vehicular traffic, particularly along 42nd Ave. S., S. 124th St., 44th Ave. S. and 44th PI. S. I am happy to tell you that the City has already started working to address the neighborhood's concerns. Improving residential quality of life is one of the City's main priorities for 2015. In response to the canvass results, a cross departmental group has been convened, with representatives from Police, Code Enforcement, Public Works and the Mayor's Office, to identify ways to improve livability in Allentown. This community meeting allows you and your neighbors the opportunity to work in partnership with City staff on these issues. We hope that you will bring your ideas and enthusiasm to the meeting! In reality, many of the concerns we heard do not have quick fixes and will require a long term, strategic approach. The City is committed to this effort, and needs your help and participation in making Allentown even greater. Please join us at the meeting on May 7 and partner with us to identify achievable solutions that will work for Allentown. I look forward to seeing you there. Sincerely, Jim Naggerton Mayor ALLENTOWN CANVASS RESULTS The City of Tukwila went door to door in Allentown to hear directly from residents as to the key issues affecting the neighborhood.
