Tukwila, Washington 98188 March 2, 2015 Jim Haggerton, Mayor The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service Commission: Ron Johnston, Stephen Wheeler and Dennis Sivak. Others in attendance were Assistant Fire Chief Mike Soss, Deputy Police Chief Bruce Linton, President of IAFF Local #2088 Dawn Judkins, and Kim Gilman, Civil Service Examiner. CALL TO ORDER 5:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Chair Ron Johnston called the meeting to order. The Chair asked if there were any corrections needed for the February 2nd Commission Meeting minutes. Deputy Chief Linton reported a correction. He clarified that the department is working to fill 1 pipeline position (candidate currently in background). The minutes were revised to include the correction. Staffing Update Fire Assistant Chief Soss reported that the Department currently has 2 members out on long -term disability. There are 4 entry -level firefighter candidates currently in background. The Department plans to hire these 4 in time to start the Academy on April 8 th Fire Battalion Chief Position This item was tabled until a future meeting. Description Revision Fire Battalion Chief Test The test process outline for the position of Fire Battalion Chief was distributed to the Commissioners. Assistant Chief Soss noted that the test will include both a Tactical Exam and an Assessment Center, but that the weights for each were changed to reflect 45% for the Tactical and 55% for the Assessment Center. He stated that he met with the union prior to this meeting, and that the union was in agreement with the change in weights. Applications from internal candidates will be accepted starting March 9t'. 6200 Southcenter Boulevard . Tukwila, Washington 98188 POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Jim Haggerton, Mayor Staffing Update Deputy Chief Linton reported that the Police Department is currently fully staffed with 75 commissioned officers (of which, 3 are currently in FTO training). There is one lateral police officer applicant currently in background. The police records specialist candidate passed background, and will start work at the end of the month. NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Vacancy The Civil Service Examiner reported that there have not been any candidates applications turned in for the advertised Civil Service Commissioner vacancy.
