TukwilaWa.gov April 6, 2015 The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting Service Commission: Ron Johnston and Dennis Sivak. Others in atte Michael Villa, Fire Battalion Chief Lavern Peterson, and Kim Gilman, CALL TO ORDER 5:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Chair Ron Johnston called the The Chair asked if there were the March 2nd Commission 1V corrections were noted. No Staffing Update B/C Peterson reported that the Department currently has 2 members out on long -term disability, and 1 member on light duty. One probationary firefighter recently completed the Academy. Four additional probationary firefighters were recently hired and will begin the Academy on April 8th. Currently the Department is staffed at 19 firefighters per shift. P Chief Villa reported that the Police Department is currently fully staffed with 75 commissioned officers (of which, 3 are currently in FTO training). There are 3 lateral police officer applicants currently in background. There is 1 police records specialist applicant currently in background. Department staff are currently working on the logistics for a Police Commander promotional test in May and Sergeant promotional test in June. Police Commander The Examiner distributed draft copies of the proposed Description Revision Police Commander position description. He noted that the description was revised to include the current job requirements for Police Commanders as required by RCW 43.101.350. Education and experience sections were also revised. VIOUSLY. The Civil Service Examiner reported that there have not been any candidates applications turned in for the advertised Civil Service! Commissioner vacancy. Commissioner Sivak announced that this would be his last Civil Service meeting. Those in attendance wished him well on his travels. B/C Peterson reported that a former firefighter that served the City from 1973 -2001 is currently suffering from poor health and is in the hospital. B/C Peterson provided the hospital room number so that Commissioners could visit the firefighter and his family. MOVED BY WHEELER, SECONDED BY JOHNSTON THAT THE REGULAR MEETING BE ADJOURNED. The current list is valid through 6/1/15. Thank you for your consideration, Mike Soss Assistant Chief TFD CITY OF TUKWILA POLICE SERGEANT ELIGIBILITY LIST PROCESS All dates listed below are tentative. 1. ADVERTISE: • Open the position on Tuesday, May 5th with a closing date of May 22nd at 5:00pm. Only accepting online applications via NEOGOV. • Advertise internally only. 3. ASSESSMENT CENTER: (June 9, TCC) • Candidate Orientation: May 7th at 1 pm • Public Safety Testing to assist City staff with conducting the Assessment Center. 4 exercises will comprise the Assessment Center. • Panel: 7 Assessors chosen from outside jurisdictions, at the rank of Sergeant and above. • Individual weights of exercises determined by PST validation process, based on submitted Command Staff and incumbent surveys. • All participating applicants that complete the Assessment Center will be added to the eligibility list. 4. APPEALS /PROTEST PERIOD: • Per Civil Service Rules, 5 days following the administration of the test. 5. CERTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY LIST: List to compiled by the end of June. • Submit eligibility list to the Commission for certification at the July meeting. • List in effect for 1 year, with an option to extend an additional year. 6.
