HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-03-20 Special Minutes - City Council and Executive Team: 2015-2016 Budget Priorities Joint Work SessionCity Of Tukwila • City Council Joint Council and Executive Team Work Session 2015/2016 Budget Priorities Location: ITT Technical Institute Date: March 20, 2014 Start: 5:30 p.m. End: 8:30 p.m. PRESENT Elected Officials: Jim Haggerton, Mayor; De'Sean Quinn, Council President; Joe Duffie, Dennis Robertson, Allan Ekberg, Verna Seal, Kathy Hougardy, Kate Kruller, Councilmembers Staff: David Cline, Joyce Trantina, Evie Boykan, Stephanie Brown, Chris Flores, Bob Giberson, Trish Kinlow, Peggy McCarthy, Mary Miotke, Jack Pace, Derek Speck, Rick Still, Mike Villa, Cheryl Thompson, Laurel Humphrey Facilitators: Dawn Couch and Brian Murphy, Berk Consulting The purpose of this Council Work Session was to discuss the process and timeline for priority setting and budget preparation for the 2015 -2016 biennium. Welcome and Session Overview Mayor Haggerton and Council President Quinn each provided opening comments to welcome attendees and state the benefit of working together. Lookinq Ahead — Revisiting our Vision Berk staff let attendees through an exercise to imagine being in the year 2025 from the vantage of a randomly selected identity (e.g. "Boeing Engineer "). The results were recorded and sorted according to Strategic Plan goals in a wall display. Review of Budget Development Process Finance Director Peggy McCarthy presented the updated budget process. Budget Priorities for 2015 -2016 Representatives from Administrative Staff summarized priorities (listed below) that were developed at a previous joint meeting, followed by group discussion. • Community Development of Tukwila International Boulevard • Inviting Neighborhoods • Economy • Community Image • High Performing Organization City Council — Facilities Needs Assessment Work Session March 20, 2014 — Page 2 Berk staff identified the four topics that emerged with the most support as 2015/2016 priorities: • Community Development on Tukwila International Boulevard • Neighborhoods & housing • Communications • High Performing Organization Roundtable Reflections Participants shared final thoughts.
