• Good project with the group could be a public awareness campaign such as a poster and /or
brochure
• Diversity in applicants is a constant struggle for recruiting. Partly because people in many
diverse communities do not want to apply. This is a good group to assist with boosting the
signal about good things happening in the community.

2010 COPCAB GOALS
Jim Haggerton, Mayor
David W. Haynes, Chief of Police
1. Take an active and visible role in the Rock N Roll Marathon
3/24/10 - Last year, many ineinbers supported the Cotntnand Center and a couple helped out at the
starting point. Those who would like to volunteer again this year were asked to get their nalnes to Phi.
Chief Haynes stated the starting tune for volunteers will be around 2: 00ain on June 26, 2010.
2. Take the first look at the web communication software when it is purchased
3/24/10 - Due to budget cut, this item will be elitninated.
3. Play an active and visible role in community education and communication programs
3/24/10- a)Blockwatch training
b)Apartment Manager's Network
- Chief Haynes stated we will continue primarily with a) and b)
c)Citizen's Police Academy
- Chief Haynes stated he had to cut this training in 2010
d)CERT
This is Fire Department's training
Chief Haynes would like to keep all of the above trainings as our ongoing goals for the future.
8/25/10 — Various COPCAB and Council members attended Night Out Against Crime. 28
neighborhoods signed up for this event. Chief Haynes and Art thought the event turned out great.
Lynn took the pictures of the event and forwarding them to Chris to be used on Channel 21. Art stated
a Hispanic group invited him to come to speak with them about COPCAB.
8/25/10 - Block Watch — Art stated he feels good about his blockwatch group, which has at least 6
people so far and might have another one signing up soon. Art will get the necessary documents to
Chris to have a blockwatch formed. He stated he used low -key approach and it seems to be working.
Chris stated she can coordinate to have meetings at the library. She recommended each meeting to be
run between 35 -40 minutes and leave the rest of the meeting for socializing. Chief Haynes stated he
would like to see blockwatch groups go up to 40 in 2011 -2012. He further added that if we can get all
40 blockwwatch captains to be CERT certified, this would be great as they will know exactly what to
do if emergency happens,.
Chief Haynes mentioned that he noticed very high enthusiasm in this group. He added even with
budget cuts, this group can get the excitement going. He would like to see things that this group can
do that are exciting, lead it and move forward with it.
Chris encouraged the group to give her number and email address to whomever that show interests in
having blockwatches, and she's happy to talk to them.

4. Develop informational videos and /or pictures for Channel 21 showing COPCAB involvement
such as at Tukwila Days, July 4t Celebration, etc.
3/24/10 — Chief Haynes would like to see this station used by COPCAB to post photos, by way of
slideshow with music in the background. He added this would be a powerful piece to send a message
to the viewers. Anyone who has a camera can take photos of members at different events and
forward to Phi.
5/26/10 — We need a group of 2 -3 volunteers to pull together information to post on Tukwila's Channel
21. The first idea is to redesign the Block Watch presentation and make it suited for Channel 21.
8/25/10 — This goal was completed Art, Jerry and Chris.
5. Continue with the visibility and involvement of COPCAB within the community
3/24/10 — It was suggested that members wear name tags with "Tukwila COPCAB" on them so
people know where COPCAB members are from. The other suggestion is to put up Block Watch sign
instead of COPCAB sign at 2010 Tukwila Days and make that as the board's focus for this year
5/26/10 — If budget allows, Chief Haynes will look at changing all the name tags to include "Tukwila
COPCAB".
6. Have at least 2 meetings at sites other than City of Tukwila facilities
3/24/10 — Instead of having offsite meetings, it was suggested that different members attend various
City's Board and Commission meetings as COPCAB members, and bring information back to share
with the group what they have learned. Phi will send out a list of Committees to group
