Call to Order: Chairperson Sean Albert called the meeting to order at 5:38pm.
Attendance: Commissioners — Sean Albert, Don Scanlon, Alice Russell, Joanne McManus, Mike Martin
Staff — Dave Johnson, Robert Eaton
Introductions: New Park Commissioner Mike Martin was introduced to the Commission. Mike shared his
background and interests with the Commission.
Approval of Minutes: Alice Russell moved to approve the minutes of the March 18, 2015 meeting. Don Scanlon
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Business Items
A. Park Watch Program — Robert Eaton introduced the Parks Watch Program and how it ties into the building
community, foster ownership of neighborhood parks, enhance safety /reduce crime, and build
communication channels. This will be a collaborative effort with other City department to connect with
the community. The Program will include "Meet & Greet" events with advance outreach to neighbors.
The events will include food, fun, games, and opportunity to discuss meet with neighbors to discuss levels
of service, park safety, features and programs in parks, etc. We really want to engage the neighbors.
After the events, we hope to be able to move forward with a couple of sites to develop the Park Watch
Program further. Robert asked the Park Commission to be the sponsor of the program. Commissioners
discussed the merits of the program and asked clarifying questions. Don Scanlon made a motion for the
Park Commission to be the Sponsor of Park Watch program and commit $2,000 to it in 2015. Joanne
McManus seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
B. Duwmaish Hill Preserve Update — Staff informed the Commission of progress of the Duwamish Hill
Preserve and that we estimate that we'll be advertising for bids in early May.
C. Department Update — Staff provided updates on Parking at Foster Gold Links, upcoming WRPA
Conference, TCC Maintenance work.
D. Park Rules and Regulations — Staff provided an update on the status of the Park Rules and Regulations
that are going through the council process for approval.
Other
A. Chair elections —Alice Russell moved to nominate Sean Albert for the Chairperson and Don Scanlon
Scanlon as the Vice - Chairperson of the Park Commission. Joanne McManus seconded the nomination.
No other nominations were made. Motion passed unanimously.
Adjournment: Don Scanlon moved to adjourn at 6:35pm. The motion was seconded by Alice Russell. The motion
passed unanimously.
