Tukwila Wa.gov May 4, 2015 VN/ Jim Ha Berton, Mayor The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service Commission: Ron Johnston and Stephen Wheeler. Others in attendance were Deputy Police Chief Bruce Linton, Fire Battalion Chief Lavern Peterson, Bruce Paquette, Tukwila citizen and Kim Gilman, Civil Service Examiner. CALL TO ORDER 5:02 p.m. Chair Ron Johnston called the meeting to order. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Chair asked if there were any corrections needed for the April 6th Commission Meeting minutes. No corrections were noted. GENERAL BUSINESS The Chair welcomed Bruce Paquette to the meeting. Mr. Paquette stated that he is interested in applying for the Vacant Commission seat. He briefly summarized his background in working as an Engineer in the military division of Boeing, as a former volunteer firefighter with the Washington DC Fire Department and also served as a volunteer for the Tukwila Elementary School. Those in attendance welcomed Mr. Paquette. The Chair asked for a moment of silence in honor of fallen Fire Captain Mike McCoy. ARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update B/C Peterson reported that the Department currently has 3 vacant positions. It is the Chief's intent to hold entry-level interviews for the next 4 candidates on the eligibility list later this month with the plan for 2 hires to attend the Fall Academy. Furthermore, the Department will be promoting 2 Captains off the eligibility list in the near future as well, pending the approval of the current Fire Captain eligibility list. Fire Captain List Extension B/C Peterson reported that the Department is requesting a one year extension of the Fire Captain's promotional eligibility list. The Department has two vacant Captain 1 positions and no plans or funds to this time. There are seven eligible the list. A copy of the written regl agenda packet. MOTION Deputy Chief Linton reported that the Police Department is fully staffed with 76 commissioned officers. He noted that there are 2 lateral police officers, 1 entry police officer, and 1 records specialist currently in the background process. Deputy Chief Linton stated that the Laterals recently hired are doing well and are scheduled to come off of FTO early. A draft timeline for the Police Sergeant Eligibility List process was distributed as part of the agenda packets. Deputy Chief Linton explained that the current list for Police Sergeant has expired after being in effect for 2 years. Therefore a new test is scheduled to occur on June 9t'.
