Fax (206) 431 -3688 City Of Tukwila Police Department An Accredited Agency COPCAB Minutes May 14, 2015 6:30pm- 8:00pm Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Jerry Thornton, John Lindsay • Minutes from 4/9/15 meeting approved. • Chief's Update • Staffing at 75, next week an officer from TX joins the Depar • Two officers are in Background from AZ and From ITT • One officer has been selected as a TAC officer at WSCJTC will reimburse his salary. • Tukwila has a Sgt. on the Auto Theft Task force, paid by the positions, but there is currently a vacancy. Currently TPD is opening. Jim Haggerton, Mayor Michael Villa, Chief of Police Kim Karns, Lori Clark will do this for 3 years and the state rce. With the cooperation of the School Dist. superintendent, an officer was sent in undercover. it was discovered that very little drug activity occurs on school grounds and that school security is right on things. Two students and one adult who had sold drugs off campus were arrested: Lori really appreciated the jib done by TPD. �ussion of 2015 Annual Plan • Look at a 2015 =2016 plan, rather than one year. • Survey — is there an idea for mailing them out to the community? Lori will distribute them to students. Community events. Go to other Boards /Commissions with the survey. • Brainstorm ways to show the PD in a positive light • Involvement in new facility plan • Potential arena? • Wendy and Zach • Next meeting focus on TPD outreach/survey • Good of the Order • Chris — There will be a Homelessness 101 class offered for free on May 20th. Fax (206) 431 -36r • Lynn has resigned from COPCAB. • Upcoming events are now listed on the agenda. • A City of Tukwila Employee has asked if the group would recommend an ordinance change to include a City employee position. This will be put on the agenda for the next meeting. Tukwila Village update was requested, folks were referred to the City of Tukwila website and Derek Speck Lori — foster HS graduation is June 12th. There will be some sort of fireworks. Fitness program for the PD — An officer who has been a fitness trainer prior to becoming an officer is in charge of the new fitness program. There is not a PD gym; however the TPD Guild has a fitness center. It is not feasible, due to security concerns to use TCC or LA Fitness. There will be a new facility paid for by the Guild and the Department, split evenly. It is currently only going to be for PD employees.
