Canvass Results
As a part of the City of Tukwila's ongoing commitment to residential neighborhoods, City staff recently conducted
a door -to -door survey in the McMicken neighborhood. Over a seven -week period, staff visited 485 homes, making
contact with 355. 175 individuals participated in the survey.
In general, McMicken residents reported a high level of satisfaction with the City and their neighborhood. Still,
specific issues were identified, and City staff is working to address those under the City's purview. Soon you will
see the Police Department's radar trailer on major arterials in McMicken to notify drivers about their speed and
encourage more responsible driving. An interdepartmental team has been convened to determine how best to
tackle some of the issues uncovered in the canvass.
One of the issues heard was the need for additional sidewalks in the neighborhood. Tukwila is currently in the
design phase for a complete overhaul of 42nd Avenue South, which will include a number of safety improvements
that include new sidewalks. Construction on this project is expected to start next spring. While this does not
resolve all of the sidewalk issues in McMicken, it will be a great improvement in the neighborhood and will
significantly increase safety along that important corridor.
Staff will provide the City Council with a briefing on the McMicken canvass on Monday, August 10 at its
regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole Meeting. This will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Tukwila City Hall.
Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the survey.
