• Minutes from 12/11/14 meeting tabled due to lack of quorum.
• Chief's Update
Staffing — The group is very healthy right now, only one person off on injury, which is very low.
• Currently the department has 73 commissioned officers out of 75 budgeted. Three more will be
starting in the next 2 months, all lateral officers. There is an additional officer in the
background process as a pipeline candidate.
• It is likely many officers will be retiring in the next few years, so the pipeline officers are
needed.
• COPCAB Awards /Annual Report to the City Council.
• For officers, Zach Anderson was mentioned for his great work in recruiting and other
community efforts.
Jun agreed to present the awards
Also mentioned was the new Westfield manager, Becky Smith, who was instrumental in
getting the mall office opened. She has also worked with the P &R Dept., allowing them to
use the Skylounge for classes.
Doubletree Hotel, Chris will follow up to see if the Hotel gave a price break for the East
African Conference In addition, the Doubletree has also assisted the PD by providing a free
room for prostitution stings and has been supportive of the group BEST, Businesses Working
to End Slavery and Trafficking by hosting a conference.
• Discussion of 2015 Annual Plan
• One PD Goal is to decrease property crime in the residential areas.
• A second is to implement a residential safety campaign.
The Chief sees COPCAB as being a good sounding board for ideas to meet these
goals.
• He also would like to have the assistance of COPCAB members in getting
information out into the community.
• Another idea is to have COPCAB assist with a community survey.
• Provide feedback on Police communications into the community.
