Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Attendance: Sharon Kidd (Vice Chair), Linda McLeod, Steve Miller (Chair), Gerie Ventura (Secretary)
Staff. Stephanie Gardner (Tukwila Parks), John Sheller (KCLS)
Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:21pm
Approval of minutes: Reviewed the March Minutes. Marie moved to accept the minutes with name spelling
corrections, Sharon seconded, all were in favor and the motion passed.
Staff Reports:
1. John shared that the city is leaning towards a summertime groundbreaking for the new Tukwila Library.
The library design has been approved by the city. There will be a piece of art on the corner of the
library. KCLS has an art selection process that will start in the next month or so.
2. Stephanie reported about the new Tukwila Annual Report. She highlighted the comprehensive Goals &
Policies section and talked about collaboration with Global to Local. A group recently walked to
Cascade View and gave input about the use of parks in Tukwila. She also highlighted several 2014
events: Start to Fitness (year- long), July 4, Touch a Truck, Heritage Festival.
3. The Backyard Wildlife event is May 10. In the past, the Friends group was there manning a booth, with
bookmarks. Stephanie asked if the KCLS bookmobile will be there. John will find out.
Business Items:
L Gerie and Linda volunteered at the recent Dr. Seuss event at the community center and they enjoyed
giving out books to all the children.
2. Marie and Stephanie shared concerns about whether the Tukwila Village and KCLS art will
complement each other and wanted to make sure that the library is careful about the process. Marie said
that it would be helpful if there were Tukwila community members on the KCLS art selection group or
from the Tukwila Arts Commission or TLAB.
3. There is an April 7 KCLS Director search meeting from lam — 8:30am.
Adjournment: It was moved by Steve to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Linda and the meeting was
adjourned at 7:50pm.
