Call to Order: Chairperson Sean Albert called the meeting to order at 5:35pm.
Attendance: Commissioners — Sean Albert, Alice Russell, Mike Martin
Staff — Dave Johnson, Robert Eaton
Approval of Minutes: Mike Martin moved to approve the minutes of the April 15, 2015 meeting. Alice Russell
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Business Items
A. Park Watch Program — Robert Eaton provided an update to the Commission on the progress of the Park
Watch Program including the Logic Model, draft Charter, and invited Commissioners to attend the
upcoming AD HOC meeting on May 27th as a way to be involved. Additional ways to be involved include
attending the "Meet & Greet" events in July and helping to spread the word to the community about the
program.
B. Duwamish Hill Preserve Update — Staff informed the Commission of progress of the Duwamish Hill
Preserve and that Paul Brothers Inc. is the apparent low- bidder. We are progressing through the council
process to approve the bid award.
C. Department Update — Staff provided updates on upcoming trainings that staff are attending and
upcoming public meetings for the Comp Plan.
D. Park Rules and Regulations — Staff noted that City Council adopted the updated Rules and Regs on May 4th
and thanked the Commission for their work on this. Staff are now exploring what the Rules sign would
look like and presented the idea of using symbols. Commission liked the progress of the work and
encouraged staff to work towards a "positive" feel of the sign.
E. Trail User Education — Staff presented information on a trail user education program and accompanying
trail signs to help address citizen concern regarding trail use. The Commission supports this as an
opportunity to engage users and likes the share the trail concept. Commissioner suggestions include
trying to avoid "traffic sign" feel, be representative of the community, and explore pavement markings.
Other
A. Robert Eaton presented information on the Green City Partnership program through Forterra. Mr. Eaton
noted that the Community Affairs and Parks Committee will be hearing the issue on May 26, 2015. Mike
Martin moved that the Park Commission support Tukwila's involvement in a Green City Partnership
including providing for the long -term sustainability of the partnership. Alice Russell seconded the motion.
Motion passed unanimously.
Mike attended the Friday educational session at the WRPA Annual Conference on May 1St and provided a
quick update to the Commission.
Adjournment: Alice Russell moved to adjourn at 6:27pm. The motion was seconded by Mike Martin. The motion
passed unanimously.
