CITY OF TUKWILA
WASHINGTON
RESOLUTION NO. 1222 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING GRANTING
VARIANCES TO THE NIGHTIME LIMITATION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Nightime Limitation Program (NLP) was negotiated in 1990 between
the Port and carriers, and
WHEREAS, three carriers have requested variances from that standard, and
WHEREAS, the NLP program agreed to limit airplane nghtime noise between 12:00
a.m. and 6:00 a.m. beginning October 1, 1992, and
WHEREAS, the nghtime limitations include use of quieter Stage 3 aircraft, and prohibit
use of the noisier Stage 2 aircraft which are being proposed in the three variances, and
WHEREAS, airline companies have been aware of the noise limitation for two years
since the agreement was negotiated, and have the ability to accomodate the NLP standards, and
WHEREAS, the failure to use quieter airlines at night disturbs the sleep of thousands of
residents in a wide area surrounding the airport, and
WHEREAS, simply abiding by the limits set up in the program will offer relief to those
thousands who suffer from airport noise, and
WHEREAS, airport noise in general has a negative impact on citizens, including
residents, businesses and schools in the area,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
That the Port of Seattle should deny the noise variances requested, and should
uphold the agreed upon Nightime Noise Program standards.
