Structural Thermal Panels are factory assem- bled, processed wood -fiber -faced sandwich panels with expanded polystyrene (EPS) as the core material. The panels are used as load - bearing wall, floor, and roof compo- nents. The panels vary in size from 4 ft x 8 ft to 8 ft x 18 ft (1.2 m x 2.4 m to 2.4 m x 5.5 m). Panel thicknesses are 41st Inches or 61n Inches (114.3 mm and 165 mm). A Temo, Inc. Structural Thermal Panel consists of an expanded polystyrene (EPS) core with a nominal density of 1.0 pcf (16 kg/m and 7 /1s In. (11 mm) thick oriented strand board skins. Two different core thicknesses are used to manufacturer the panels, 35/9 In. (90 mm) thick foam is used for wall panels, roof panels, and floor panels, while 5 se In. (143 mm) thick foam is used for the roof and floor panels. The thicker panels are permitted for use as wall panels provided thelr allowable spans are limited to those Indi- cated for the 4 1st in. The expanded polystyrene core material is a nominal 1.0 pcf (16 kg/m expanded polystyrene board manufactured by Falcon Foam. Manufacture of the foam plastic is subject to the third -parry inspection and testing of Under- writers Laboratory, Inc. Temo, Inc. Structural Thermal Panels are limited to the properties and loading conditions Indicated in Tables 1 through 4 of this report. Allowable loads are permitted to be used for shorter spans or heights. Extrapolation is not permitted. The allowable loads shown in these tables are for the Temo, Inc. Structural Thermal Panels only and do not take Into consideration the fasteners and the support- ing elements for these panels. These components of the assembly shall conform to the requirements of the applica- ble code for these Items. Except as described below, a thermal barrier, such as a layer of 1/2 In. thick regular gypsum wallboard, shall separate the Structural Thermal Panels from the interior of the building. A thermal barrier shall not be required to separate the Structural Thermal Panels from the interior of the building when the Interior of the panels are completely coated with 20 mils (dry thickness, 28 mils wet thickness) of Firefree 88 as manufactured by Precision Technical Coatings, Inc, Berkeley California. Panels that are factory coated shall be Identified as such. Panels that are field coated shall be inspected for thickness and coverage by a special inspec- tor. Structural Thermal Panels are connected to each other along the panel edges by inserting standard dimensional lumber, nominal 2 by 4 or 2 by 6 depending on panel thickness. The lumber Is secured between the panels with 2 we In. (60 mm), 8d full round head nails spaced 6 -in. (152.4 mm) at the panel edges, or an ap- proved fastening method that provides equivalent or higher shear - strength properties. The panels are framed by conventional top and bottom plates of nominal 2 by 4 or 2 by 6 lumber depending on panel thickness. When the loading along the top of the panel is uniform, a single -top plate Is required. When concentrated loads are applied by roof members (trusses and beams) a column or specially designed top plate Is required, such that the loading on the panel does not exceed the allowable values given in Section 3.2 of this report. Typical methods for framing a roof system into the vertical panels are illustrated In Figure 1 of this report. Specific methods for panel connections to each other and to the supporting construction shall be Included In the design calculations and details submitted to the code official as noted In Section 7.2 of this report. 5.0 IDENTIFICATION The Temo, Inc. Structural Thermal Panel shall be identi- fied by a stamp or label on the panel containing the product panel number, name and address of the manufac- turer, the National Evaluation Service report number, and the label of the third -party inspection agency, CI Profes- sional Services, Inc.
