Fumish and install all materials and equipment and provide all labor required and necessary to complete the work shown on the drawings and all other work and miscellaneous items, not specifically mentioned, . but reasonably inferred for a complete installation including all accessories and appurtenant required for testing•the system. It is the intent of the drawings and specifications that all systems be complete and ready for operation. 1.2 CODE COMPLIANCE A. All work and materials shall comply with the latest rules, codes, and regulations, including, but not limited to the following: 1. Occupational Safety and Health Act Standards (OSHA). 2. NFPA #70: National Electric Code (NEC). 3. NFPA #101: Life Safety Code. 4.. All other applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations. 5. All Landlord General Requirements. B. Code compliance is mandatory. Nothing in these Drawings and Specifications permits work not conforming to these codes. Where work is shown to exceed minimum code requirements, comply with drawings and specifications. 1.3 LICENSE, FEES AND PERMITS A. Arrange for required inspections and pay all license, permit, and inspection fees. 1.4 CONDITIONS AT SITE A. Visit to site is required of all bidders prior to submission of bid. All will be held to have familiarized themselves with all discernible conditions and no extra payment will be allowed for work required because of 'these conditions, whether specifically mentioned or not. 1.5 DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS A. All drawings and all Divisions of these specifications shall be considered as a whole and work of this Division shown anywhere therein shall be fumished under this Division. B. Drawings are diagrammatic and indicate the general arrangement of equipment and wiring. Most direct routing of conduits and wiring is not assured. Exact requirements shall be governed by architectural, structural, and mechanical conditions of the job. Consult all other drawings in preparation of the bid. Extra lengths of wiring or addition of pull or junction boxes, etc., necessitated by such conditions shall be included in the bid. Check all information and report any apparent discrepancies before submitting bid. C. Right is reserved to make changes of up to 10' in location of any outlet or equipment prior to roughing -in without increasing contract cost. 1.6 SAFETY AND INDEMNITY A. Safety: The Contractor shall be solely and completely responsible for conditions of the job site, including safety of all persons and property during performance of the work. This requirement will apply continuously and not be limited to normal working hours. No act, service, drawing review, or construction review by the Owner, the Architect, or their Consultants, is intended to include review of the adequacy of the Contractor's safety measures,,in, on, or near the construction site. Indemnity: The Contractor will hold harmless, indemnify, and defend the Owner, the Architect, their Consultants, and each of their officers, employees and agents, from any and all liability claims, losses or damage arising or alleged to arise from the performance of the work described herein, but not including the sole negligence of the Owner, the Architect, lnd their Consultants, ancl each of their Officers, Employees and agents. 1.7 CONTRACTOR VERIFICATION A. In addition to the usual prebid survey required by these specifications for purposes of determining all existing conditionq and difficulties, it is further required that the contractor verify alt equipment catalog numbers for items furnished under the electrical section both for current validity and for conformance with current building standards. Should catalog data contained herein not be in concert with latest manufacturer's nomenclature or latest tenant of landlord requirements, contractor shall so inform the tenant in writing, reflect necessary changes on submittal drawings, and record accurate data on record drawings. Fumish and install correct equipment. 1.8 RECORD DRAWINGS A. Maintain one set of clean working drawings at the job site and enter daily such "as- built" information as feeder and service routes, pull box locations and changes in layout or arrangement which occur during costruction. Deliver completed drawings to the Owner. 1.9 GUARANTEE A. Guarantee the installation free from defects of workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year after Date of Certificate of Final Payment, and promptly remedy any defects developing during this period, without charge. 1.10 ACCEPTANCE DEMONSTRATION A. Upon completion of the work, at a time to be designated by the Owner, the Contractor shall demonstrate for the Owner the operation of the, electrical installation, including any and all special items installed by him or installed under his supervision. Properly set automatic time switches to perform switching operations in accordance'with schedules provided by the Owner's representative, and demonstrate (using the manufacturers' operating instructions) how to override and/or reset time switches. 1.11 SUBSTITUTIONS A. Wherever possible, more than one manufacturer has been listed for various items of equipment, any one of which will be acceptable. Base the bid on use of materials specified. If, after award of the Contract, a substitute is proposed, the request for permission to substitute shall be accompanied with a statement of the amount of money to be returned to the contract if 'the substitution is permitted. The Owner is the sole judge of acceptability of proffered substitutions. If a substitute item is permitted, and any redesign effort is thereby necessitated, the required redesign shall be at the Contractor's expense. r ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS 1.12 COORDINATION A. Coordinate work with other trades to avoid conflict and to provide correct rough -in and connection for equipment fumished under other trades that require electrical connections. Inform Contractors of other trades of the required access to and clearances around electrical equipment to maintain serviceability and code compliance. B. Verify equipment dimensions and requirements with provisions specified under this Section. Check actual job conditions before fabricating work. Report necessary changes in time to prevent needless work. Changes or additions subject to additional compensation, which are made without written authorization and an agreed price, shall be at Contractor's risk and expense. 1.13 CUTTING AND PATCHING A All cutting and patching required for work of this Division is included herein. Coordination with General Contractor and other trades is imperative. Contractor shall bear the responsibility for and the added expense of adjusting for improper holes, supports, etc. REFER TO AND FOLLOW ALL MALL CRITERIA. 2.00 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIAL APPROVAL A. All materials must be new and bear Underwriters' Laboratories label. Materials that are not covered by UL testing standards shall be tested and approved by an independent testing laboratory or a govemmental agency. Material not in accordance with these Specifications may be rejected either before or after installation. 2.2 CONDUITS AND OTHER RACEWAYS A. Raceway materials: 1. Steel Conduit Manufacturers: Walker, National, Appleton, Triangle, Rome, General Electric. Minimum conduit size shall be 3/4 ". Rigid steel: Galvanized or sherardized. All fittings threaded bends 1 -1/4 inch or larger. Factory running and exposed threads not permitted. Ream all cuts. 2. Electric Metallic Tubing: Manufacturer. Same as conduit. Galvanized or insulated throats. Couplings and connectors with plastic insulated throats, couplings and connectors, set screw, threaded compression. Ream and file all cuts. 3. Flexible Conduit: Manufacturers: Same as conduit. Galvanized steel fittings: "Jake as manufactured by W. F. Curlee Mfg. Co. 4. With Landlord and Tenant's approval, MC Cable from first box in space to outlets as permitted by code authority. 5. Provide expansion joints for conduit runs of over 90 feet unless flexible conduit used. Flexible conduit permitted inside tenant space only. B. Support Systems: Raceway supported at intervals not over 10 -feet. Provide one support not over 18- inches from each joint or change in direction. Clamps, on hole malleable iron with clampbox in exposed areas. Trapeze hangers for multiple runs. Caddy clips permitted inside tenant space only. 2.3 WIRES AND CABLES A. For power and lighting systems 600 Volts or less, plenum rated, above ceiling: 1. Conductor. #12 AWG and #10 AWG solid copper. #8 AWG and larger shall be stranded copper. Minimum size shall be #12 AWG. 2. Insulation Type: #12 AWG to #1 AWG shall be THWN for wet or underground locations, and THHN for dry locations. #1/0 through #410 AWG shall be Type XHHW (55 Mils). #250 MCM and larger shall be Type XHHW (65 Mils). 3. All conductors shall be color coded per Mall Manual Criteria. B. For signal and communications circuits plenum rated, above ceiling: 1. Conductors for general use shall be solid copper conductor, #16 AWG minimum, with Type THWN insulation for underground or wet locations and Type THHN insulation for dry locations. 2.4 OUTLET BOXES, JUNCTION BOXES, AND PULL BOXES A. Outlet Boxes: Shall be hot -dipped, galvanized or sherardized of required size, 4" octagon or square minimum, for flush mounted devices and lighting fixtures. Cast type with gasketed covers for outdoor or wet locations. Acceptable manufacturers: Steel City, Appleton, Raco, Pyle National, Killark and Hope. B. Junction Boxes and Pull Boxes: Use outlet boxes with appropiate covers as junction boxes wherever possible. Larger junction boxes and pull boxes shall be fabricated from sheet steel, sized according to code, with screw -on covers, finished gray baked enamel. C. Telephone outlet boxes shall be the type and sizerequired by the serving telephone company but not smaller than 4- 11/16" square x 2 -1/8" deep with single -gang ring and Sierra #S -754N split plate bushing. 2.5 WIRING DEVICES A Switches: 1. 20A 120/277V, toggle type. 2. Color. White. 3. White Finish Cover plate. B. Receptacles: 1. Standard: Equal to Hubbell #5362. Provide GFI for maintenance/utility room and kitchen equipment where within 6' -0" of water. 2. Color. Equipment exposed to the weather or damp locations shall be so listed. 2.6 CONDUIT HANGERS A. For individual conduit runs not directly fastened to the structure, use rod hangers manufactured by Caddy, Unistrut or Powerstrut. B. For multiple conduit runs, use Unistrut or Powerstrut trapeze type conduit support designed for maximum deflection not greater than 1/8 ". • 2.7 WiRE CONNECTORS • A. For wires sizes #8 AWG and smaller: Insulated pressure type(with live spring) rated 105 degrees Centigrade, 600 Volts for building wiring and 1000 Volts in signs or fixtures. Scotchloc k or Ideal. B. For wires sizes #6 AWG and larger. TSB or equivalent compression type with 3M #33+ or Plymouth "Slipknot Grey" tape insulation. C. For outdoor and wet locations, provide compression type for all sizes and cover with 'heat shrink" style weatherproof splice connectors. 2.8 PANELBOARDS A. Equal to SQUARE D Type NQOD, NEHB (42 pole capacity). B. Cabinet Minimum 20" wide, factory knockouts. Flush door with concealed hinges. Engraved nameplates and accurate typewritten director behind plastic plate on inside of door. Key all panels the same. Cabinets made of cold rolled sheet metal. C. Trim and covers of stretcher leveled steel. Provide multi-pole breakers where required. Factory label all circuit breakers and terminals. Interrupting rating 14KA (277V) or 10KA (120V) minimum but breakers must be capable ofinterrupting adequate fault levels available at that location jn the system. D. Bussing: Plated copper. E. Provide separate ground block in addition to insulated neutral bus. F. Load center panelboards acceptable if landlord and tenant approved. G. Provide new bolt -on circuit breakers as required. H. Fumish and install fixtures complete, and ready for service as per lighting fixture schedule. B. Supports: Proper supports and mounting accessories, such as bangers, stems, yokes, plaster frames, etc., shall be provided as required by the type of ceiling installed. Where swivel canopies or ball aligners are specified, they shall cause fixture to hang plumb regardless of ceiling slope. 2.10 OVERCURRENT DEVICES A. Circuit Breakers: Plug -in 10,000A minimum (120V), 14,000A minimum (277V). Must be dated for available fault levels. B. Fuses: Bussman only. Below 100A: FRN -R and FRS-R 100A and above: LPN -RK1 and LPS -RK1 2.11 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS A. Safety Switches: Heavy duty type, 600 Volt, horsepower rated for motors, standard enclosure indoors and weathertight enclosure outdoors: fused or non -fused as required. General Electric, Square D. or Westinghouse. 2.12 INDIVIDUALLY MOUNTED MOTOR CONTROLLERS A. For Polyphase Motors: Magnetic starter, with 3-leg overload protection. Provide hand-off-automatic selector switch, motor running pilot light and reset button in cover. Provide 120V control transformers to suite control conditions. General Electric only. B. Starters for fractional horsepower 120V motors shall be manual type unless shown otherwise, equipped with built -in overload protection, General Electric only. 3.00 - EXECUTION 3.1 GENERAL A. Consult all other drawings. Verify scales and report any dimensional discrepancies or other conflicts to Architect before submitting bid. B. All homeruns to panelboards are indicated as starting from the outlet nearest the panel and continuing in the general direction of that panel. Continue such circuits to the panel as though the routes were completely indicated. Terminate homeruns of signal, alarm, and communications system in a similar manner. C. Avoid cutting and boring holes through structure or structural members wherever possible. Obtain prior approval of the Owner and conform to all structural requirements when cutting or boring the structure is necessary and permitted. D. Fumish and install all necessary hardware, hangers, blocking, brackets, bracing, runners, etc., required for equipment specified under this Section. E. Provide necessary backing required to insure rigid mounting of outlet boxes. 3.2 WIRING METHOD A. Install all wiring in raceway. B. Conduit shall be rigid steel, IMC, or EMT as follows: 1. Above ground: Use rigid steel, IMC, or EMT. a. Wet locations: Rigid steel or IMC only. b. Locations subject to mechanical injury: Rigid steel or IMC only. c. Dry locations and those not subject to mechanical injury: EMT, IMC, or rigid steel conduit. 2. Underground: Schedule 40 PVC (if permitted, rigid steel, wrapped). C. Use flexible steel conduits in the following applications: 1. Recessed lighting fixtures. 2. Motor connections. 3. At expansion joints. 4. At transformers and other equipment which produces vibration. 5. At wet locations or where exposed to weather, the flexible conduit shall be liquid tight type. • 3.3 INSTALLATION OF CONDUITS A. General: 1. Run all conduits concealed unless otherwise noted or shown. 2. Run exposed conduit parallel to or at right angles to center lines of columns and beams. 3. Install conduits above ceilings to avoid obstructing removal of ceiling tiles, lighting fixtures, air diffusers,etc. 4. Conduits shall not cross any duct shaft or area designated as future duct shaft horizontally. Conduit risers when allowed in duct shaft must be coordinated with Mechanical work to avoid any conflict B. Conduit Supports 1. Support conduits with UL's listed steel conduit supports at intervals required by the NEC. Wires or sheet metal strips are not acceptable for conduit support. Use conduit hangers for all conduits not directly fastened to structure and for all multiple conduit runs. 2. Individual conduits sizes 1/2" and 3/4" may be supported ceilin support wires with Caddy clips only if acceptable to local code. Only one conduit is permitted to be attached to any ceiling support wire. Hang such conduit so as not to affect level of ceiling. 3. Avoid attaching conduit to fan plenums. When it is necessary to support conduit from fan plenum, provide a length of flexible conduit between portion attached to fan plenum and portion attached to the building to minimize transmission of vibration to the building structure. C. Conduit Penetrations 1. Conduit penetrations of roof, walls, floors and ceilings shall be sealed to preserve the integrity of waterproofing, fire rating and soundproofing, for which the roof, wall, floor or ceiling is designed. Materials and methods used shall conform to that specified under Architectural Sections. 3.4 INSTALLATION OF WIRES A. Pull no wire into any portion of the conduit system until all contruction work which might damage the wire has been completed. B. Install all wire continuous from outlet to outlet or terminal to terminal. Splices in cables when required shall be made in pull boxes or juncton boxes. Make branch circuit splices in outlet boxes with 8" of correctly color-coded tails left in the box. C. Splices in wires and cables shall be made utilizing materials and methods described hereinbefore. D. Megger and record insulation resistances of all 600 Volt insulated conductors size #410 and larger using 500 Volt megger for one minute. Make tests with circuits isolated from source and load. E. Make all ground, neutral and line connections to receptacle and wiring device terminals as recommended by manufacturer. Provide ground jumper from outlet box to ground terminal of devices. F. Provide Brady Wire markers where number of conductors in a box exceeds four. 3.5 WIRE COLOR CODE A. Color code all conductors. Wire sizes #8 AWG and smaller shall have integral color-coded insulation. Wire sizes #6 AWG and larger may have black insulation, but identified by color coded electrical tape at all junction, splice, pull or termination points. Color tape shall be applied 1/2 lap to at least 6" of the conductor. 3.6 CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT A. Furnish and install a disconnect switch immediately ahead of and adjacent to each magnetic motor starter or appliance unless the motor appliance is located adjacent and within sight of the serving panelboard, circuit breaker or switch. Verify all equipment nameplate current ratings prior to installation. B. Fumish and install manual thermal protection for all motors not integrally equipped with thermal protection. C. Furnish 120 Volt power to each control panel and time switch requiring a source of power to operate. 3.7 IDENTIFICATION A. Provide engraved, lamacoid nameplates for panels, motor starters, disconnect switches and all similar devices. B. Provide dear dymo labels on all lighting switches and convenience and special purpose receptacles to show panel and circuit number to which the device is connected. C. Provide label on all motors: "CAUTION. AUTOMATIC EQUIPMENT, MAY START AT ANY TIME." 3.9 GROUNDING A. Electrical service and separately derived altemating current systems shall be grounded in accordance with NEC Article 250-3 to 250 -26, inclusive. B. Ground non - current carrying metal parts of electrical equipment enclosures, frames, conductor raceways or cable trays to provide a low impedance path for line -to -ground fault current and to bond all non - current carrying metal parts together. Provide ground conductor in each raceway system in addition to conductors shown. Equipment ground conductor shall be electrically and mechanically continuous from the electrical circuit source to the equipment to be grounded. Size ground conductors per NEC Article 250 -95 unless larger conductors are shown on drawings. C. Grounding conductors shall be identified with green insulation. Where green insulation is not available on larger sizes, black insulation shall be used and suitable identified with green tape at each junction box or device enclosure.
