Decision Flowchart
for Prescriptive Option
Use this flowchart to determine if project qualifies for the optional Prescriptive Option.
If not, either the Component Performance or Systems Analysis Options must be used.
1302 Space Heat Type: For the purpose of determining building envelope
requirements, the following two categories comprise all space heating types:
Other: All other space heating systems including gas, solid fuel, oil, and
propane space heating systems and those systems listed in the exception to
electric resistance. (continued at nght)
Electric Resistance: Space heating systems which use electric resistance
elements as the primary heating system including baseboard, radiant, and
forced air units where the total electric resistance heat capacity exceeds 1.0
W/ft2 of the gross conditioned floor area. Exception: Heat pumps and terminal
electric resistance heating in variable air volume distnbution systems.

Footnotes for Table 15 -1
1) In cases in which a general use and a specific use are listed, the specific use shall apply. In cases in which a use is not mentioned
specifically, the Unit Power Allowance shall be determined by the building official. This determination shall be based upon the most
comparable use specified in the table. See Section 1512 for exempt areas.
2) The watts per square foot may be increased, by two percent per foot of ceiling height above twenty feet, unless specifically directed
otherwise by subsequent footnotes.
3) Watts per square foot of room may be increased by two percent per foot of ceiling height above twelve feet.
4) For all other spaces, such as seating and common areas, use the Unit Light Power Allowance for assembly.
5) Watts per square foot of room may be increased by two percent per foot of ceiling height above nine feet.
6) Reserved.
7) For conference rooms and offices less than 150ft2 with full height partitions, a Unit Lighting Power Allowance of 1.10 w /ft2 may be used.
8) Reserved.
9) For indoor sport tournament courts with adjacent spectator seating over 5,000, the Unit Lighting Power Allowance for the court area is
2.60 W /ft2.
10) Display window illumination installed within 2 feet of the window, provided that the display window is separated from the retail space by
walls or at least three - quarter- height partitions (transparent or opaque). and lighting for free- standing display where the lighting moves
with the display are exempt.
An additional 1.5 w /ft2 of merchandise display luminaires are exempt provided that they comply with all three of the following:
a) located on ceiling- mounted track or directly on or recessed into the ceiling itself (not on the wall).
b) adjustable in both the horizontal and vertical axes (vertical axis only is acceptable for fluorescent and other fixtures with two points
of track attachment).
c) fitted with LED, tungsten halogen, fluorescent, or high intensity discharge lamps.
This additional lighting power is allowed only if the lighting is actually installed.
11) Provided that a floor plan, indicating rack location and height, is submitted, the square footage for a warehouse may be defined, for
computing the interior Unit Lighting Power Allowance, as the floor area not covered by racks plus the vertical face area (access side only)
of the racks. The height allowance defined in footnote 2 applies only to the floor area not covered by racks.

Per our conversation here is our response to the two correction items per your letter dated
May 14, 2010.
• Item 1: we have revised the pair of doors so that the one leaf that swung over the
exit path (Inactive door) has been reversed and now swings into the open office.
We are calling out for a removable centre astragal to accommodate this.
• Item 2: we are painting a striped path from the bottom of the stair to the nearest
door for a discernible path of egress travel as required by IBC Section 1014.2 -1.
Thank you in advance for your assistance regarding this matter please feel free to contact
me if you have any further questions regarding this matter.

Chasing Fireflies — 350 Midland Dr
Jack Pace, Director
Dear Mr. Percich,
This letter is to inform you of corrections that must be addressed before your development permit can be
approved. All correction requests from each department must be addressed at the same time and
reflected on your drawings. I have enclosed comments from the Building Department. At this time the

Allen Johannessen, Plan Examiner
Building Division Review Memo
Date: May 7, 2010
Project Name: Chasing Fireflies
Permit #: D10 -115
Plan Review: Allen Johannessen, Plans Examiner
The Building Division conducted a plan review on the subject permit application. Please address the
following comments in an itemized format with revised plans, specifications and/or other applicable
documentation.
(GENERAL NOTE)
PLAN SUBMITTALS: (Min. size 11x17 to maximum size of 24x36; all sheets shall be the same size).
(If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets shall be original signed wet
stamped, not copied.)
1. The plan shows to enclose the mezzanine. A mezzanine shall be open and unobstructed to the room
in which mezzanine is located with a wall not more than 42 inches high unless it meets the
Exceptions 1 -5 of the code. The one exception #2 may be a solution if two means of egress are
provided. However the one stairway with the double doors does not meet egress requirements where
the one door (considered stationary) is shown opening against the stairway, potential for blocking the
stairway; which could be resolved by extending the stairway and landing out a minimum of 48"
beyond the door, thus two means of egress would be available. Please provide a revise plan to meet
all requirements for the mezzanine. (IBC 505.3, 505.4,1007.3 & 1008.1.2)
2. Each means of egress shall not pass through a storage area or warehouse unless there is a
demarcated, minimum 44- inch -wide aisle defined by full or partial height fixed wall or similar. The
stairways providing a means of egress, shown with the exit from the main floor office, shall be
provided with a wall or permanent barrier separating the warehouse from the egress path leading to
the exit. Please provide details for the exit path partition and show on the plan view. (IBC1014.2
#2.4)
Should there be questions concerning the above requirements, contact the Building Division at 206 -431-
3670. No further comments at this time.
