Moira Bradshaw - RE: Seafood City
From: "Nicholas Lee"
To: "Moira Bradshaw"
Date: 08/18/2010 2:42 PM
Subject: RE: Seafood City
CC: "Wayne Johnson" , "Patrick Burns" , "Josh Kimmel"
Hi Moira,
The permit into the City now is only to prepare the space for temporary storage use by Seafood City in the
remainder of the old Mervyn's building, likely only through December 2010. (ie for fire protection, lighting,
egress, and access into the storage space.) Seafood City has been very successful and broken their company
single -day sales record 3 times since opening in July and need temporary storage to keep up with the high
demand for their goods. They are not willing to pay the rent on that space long term. The tenant has told us that
they experience a higher demand for the first few months when they open a new supermarket in a new market
(like when they expanded to Nevada) but that the demand settles down afterwards, once the initial appetite (pun
intended) is satisfied.
Westfield's goal is still to lease out the remaining 2nd floor of Mervyn's to a retail user, which will require the
remaining Mervyn's space on the west & northwest on the 1St floor to be available for access. We will come in
for another permit at that time in the future, and it will require your /Planning's review.
I hope this addresses your question. Please call me if it doesn't. Thanks.
Regards,
Nick

Proposed SAO Revisions

option in the SAO to increase monitoring for up to 10 years in certain circumstance S' (such as when
a forested wetland is restored), however, funds to be held to ensure the success d the project
would not be fol- all 10 years but for the first five, then for years 7 and 9. This assumes that
maintenance efforts will decrease after the first five years, once plantings are4stablished and weed
control has been effective. Staff is also proposing to add language that m4kes it clear that the
monitoring "clock" can be started over if the initial plantings have not succeeded and a majority
must be replaced. \
1
Additional Area to be Removed from SAO Map: Staff determined.tFere is an additional area to be
removed from the sensitive areas map due to an approved Reas'onable Use application. A map
illustrating this area is attached.
Clarified NorMed Map: Staff, has revised the map illustra ing the proposed SAO Map change at the
NorMed site to clarify that only a portion of the Type 2 etland on the site is being removed.
NEXT STEPS
Staff requests that the Planning Commissio review the enclosed materials and be ready to
make a recommendation to the City C,oun• if the issues have been addressed to the
Planning Commission's satisfaction.
As always, DCD staff is available to eet:with the PC members to walk through the
proposed changes or to answer a •' questi'gns. Please contact Carol Lumb (206- 431 -3661)
or me (206- 431 - 36630) if you wi to set up'' meeting.
