(If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets shall be original signed wet stamped, not copied.) 1. Apparently there must have been a misunderstanding concerning the design of an egress path. Means of egress is a continuous and unobstructed path of vertical and horizontal egress travel from any occupied portion of a building or structure to a public way. Means of egress consists of three separate and distinct parts: the exit access, the exit and the exit discharge. The common path of egress is that path that shall require emergency illumination. Other areas, bathrooms, storage rooms etc, do not require emergency illumination. Provide a floor plan that only identifies means of egress. This is different from the dimensions shown for the longest path. Egress paths shall be highlighted in some fashion with separate identifying lines or hatched lines from each space or aisle way that is required to have emergency illumination. Those paths shall require emergency illumination. Egress paths shall also have the required width. Those specific paths will be inspected by the inspectors for emergency illumination. Therefore the specific paths need to be identified on the plan. Identify path of egress illumination on the plan to show common paths of egress are provided with emergency illumination. Emergency illumination shall have at least an average 1 foot -candle and a minimum at any point of 0.1 foot candle measured along the path of egress at the floor level. Emergency lighting shall also be required for exit discharge doorways. (IBC Section 1006 & 1002.1) Should there be questions concerning the above requirements, contact the Building Division at 206 -431- 3670.
