Geotechnical Considerations, same site. December 3, 2010. Geotech Consultants, Inc. Geotechnical Engineering Study, same site, April 1, 2003. Geotech Consultants, Inc. Geotechnical Engineering Study, adjacent site. November 5, 1998. Dear Mr. Pruln: We understand that the City of Tukwila has some concerns regarding the building demolition and were have reviewed the City comments dated December 20, 2010. In response to Comments #1 & #2 you have supplied a drainage plan (prepared by Blueline and dated January 12, 2011). Based on this plan, the building envelope will be grade to a catch basin on the southern end of the envelope and the catch basin will drain to an outfall to the south away from any slopes. The plan appears acceptable from a geotechnical standpoint. In response to Comment #3, we recommend that standard erosion control practices (silt fencing along the eastern half and southern end of the building envelope) be established. In addition, the slide area should remain covered with intact weighted plastic sheeting, and the drive area (including the curbing) must remain intact to keep surface waters away from the building area and the slope. We recommend that the onsite breaking of concrete be minimized due to vibration concerns. Furthermore, any breaking of concrete should be completed on the northwestern portion of the project area to keep the vibration as far away as possible from the existing southern building. As discussed in our original letter, removing Building #2 from the site will not stabilize the slope or reduce the potential for remobilizing the slide; but, provided that the recommendations described abov- -.. future documents from Geotech Consultants are followed, it is our opinion that the buildinq de a i:', r:.i ®tF®R decrease the stability of the site slope. i JHS: jyb Respectfully submitted, GEOTECH CONSULTANTS, INC bk0-. 329 /0James H. Below is an outline of the approach we discussed this morning. • Concrete slab and foundation elements may be broken up in place using a hydraulic ram attachment to a backhoe /trackhoe. • At the south half of Building F, breaking activity should be limited, leaving the concrete in as large of pieces as possible, but small enough that they can be loaded into dump trucks or moved to the north half of the building for further breaking. file: / /C:\ temp\ XPGrpWise \4D3EE3BOtuk- mail6300 -po 1001647036122BC... 01/25/2011 Page 2 of 2 • If the rebar is to be separated from the concrete, that break -up work needs to occur at the north half of the building. • Effort should be taken to keep demolition equipment as far as possible from the east edge of the building pad. • It is not necessary to sawcut the slab or foundation elements.
