Subject: Special Inspections, Rack Shelving Floor Attachment for Existing Rack
Shelves, Liebert Corporation Warehouse, 3415 S. 116th Street, Suite 103 /Bldg.
5, Tukwila, WA 98168
Dear Sir:
This letter is to document the field inspection of several steps or components of
the approved installation of floor to rack connection at the above location.
Special Inspections -
1. Inspection of holes for anchor bolts drilled into the concrete.
2. Verification of correct size and rating of anchor bolts.
3. Correct placement and tightening of bolts into floor. Concurrently, verification
of correct supplemental fabricated brackets (where used), and their proper
connection to rack legs.
The first inspection for Items 1 and 2 above was made on May 25, 2001. The
holes were of proper diameter and depth, and had been air gunned to remove
dust. The anchor bolts for all locations were correct and were type:
Power Stud #7423FD1 Seismic Anchors, 1/2" dia. by 4 -1/2" length.
The second inspection for Item 3 was made on June 2, 2011. All rack legs had
been bolted to the floor. The Interlake racks used two bolts per leg and used the
factory anchoring plates at the bottom of the legs.
The Equipto rack was similarly fastened but used supplemental fabricated "L"
plates fastened to the legs with two 1/2" bolts at each location into the leg.
The Rivet Rack, Inc. racks had a single 1/2" anchor bolt at each leg, with a
supplemental fabricated "L" plate fastened to each leg with two 1/2" bolts at each
location into the leg.
The fabricated "L" plates were made per the approved plans.
Maximum loading signs were being prepared for each rack, and samples were
observed and approved. The signs used the load ratings generated by this office
and approved as part of this permit.
Please note that while the loadings estimated for the anchors and the design of
the anchoring of the racks to the flooring used conventional and conservative
design considerations, it is always possible that an extreme seismic event%
greater than used for the evaluation could still produce instability or damage to
the shelving.
Attached are several photographs showing the items observed during the above
visits.
Questions relating to the above may be directed to this office.

Subject: Rack Shelving Floor Attachment for Existing Rack Shelves, Lie f o of kwJIa
Corporation Warehouse, 3415 S. 116th Street, Suite 103 /Bldg. 5, Tukwila, WA" a OI/LgfQ
98168
Introduction.
The warehouse portion of the above facility has a number of in -place storage
racks used for the storage of both smaller items and larger mechanical
components or boxed products. There are three identified makes of rack, each
with its own characteristics and loading capacities.
The requirement of this evaluation is to determine the appropriate connection of
the racks to the warehouse flooring, which is slab -on -grade concrete, 2,500 psi, 5
inches thick. The loading which the connections are designed to resist is seismic
loading using Toad levels equivalent to those in conventional low rise structure
design. A safety factor of 1.5 will be used.
A seismic transverse Toad factor of 0.2 will be used for this evaluation.
Experience in designing residential and small commercial structures indicates
this is a reasonable approximation and is of adequate accuracy for these
calculations.
Rivet Rack, Inc. Shelving.
There are seven of these racks in a stand -alone configuration.
Calculations are attached sizing the number and placement of anchor bolts to
prevent overturning in the event of a seismic event. The dead weight of the
shelves is ignored, however the recommended maximum shelf loading is
assumed on each shelf. The height from the floor for the shelving calculations is
as measured from the existing shelves. A vertical reconfiguration of the shelves
is not foreseen.
The shelves are relatively tall and narrow, 24" wide by 10 feet tall. Normally we,TRECErV
would take into account the downward dead weight of the shelf loading as a
resisting moment in assisting the resistance to overturning. In this case, it will be'' , 1 2011
ignored since a transverse shifting of the shelving center of gravity during an 3 tr. RRAiT CENTER
DWO1D
event could move the center of gravity enough to the side to remove its ability to
stabilize the shelving.
A design sketch and specifications for the floor connection are included in the
calculations.
Interlake Rack System.
There are three of these units placed end -to -end, with common middle posts.
One unit is 10 feet long (right unit), with the middle and left units being 9 foot long
units. The heavy shelf loading of the 10 foot long unit (based on the number and
height of shelves) is attached to the middle 9 foot long unit. This middle unit has
the heaviest shelf loading of the 9 foot long units. This indicates that a design for
the post connections to the floor for this set of common posts will be the worst
case.
Since the width of these shelves is significant, being 4 feet, relative to their
height, this being 8 feet, the dead weight of the shelf loading will be used to
compute a portion of the resisting moment in determining the anchor bolt
capacity of the post to floor connection: In these calculations, this factor is
ignored, making these calculations very conservative.
A design sketch and specifications for the floor connection are included in the
calculations.
Equipto Rack.
There is one of these racks. It is in line but not connected to the Interlake racks.
It is of very similar design and size of the 10 foot long Interlake rack with the
exception that it is 3 feet wide. It has no common posts with other racks. Based
on these considerations, the anchor bolt loading computed for the Interlake racks
(with their double loading due to the common post use and wider 4 foot shelf
loads), will be adequate for the Equipto rack by inspection, and Equipto specific
calculations are not provided.
Quest J'- lati to the above may be directed to this office.

EQUIPTO RACK UNIT
Note: The Equipto unit is very similar in size and Toad configuration
to the Interlake units. While its width is 3 feet compared to the
Interlake units, its loading is also proportionately Tess. In addition, the
Interlake calculations used loading from two adjacent racks at one
common post hold down location whereas the Equipto unit, being a
stand alone unit, has loading from only the one unit at each end. The
Interlake calculations may be taken as acceptable hold down
evaluation for the Equipto unit. This is very conservative.
