N O m rfl If water is allowed to remain on or in bundles of painted or coated parts for extended periods of time degradation will occur. The end result is shorter material life due to corrosion. Therefore, upon receipt of a job, all bundles of primed parts should be stored at an angle to allow any trapped water to drain away and permit air circulation for drying. Separate the panels to allow air to circulate between each panel. If environmental conditions are such, tarps should be used to protect materials. Puddles of water should not be allowed to collect and remain on columns or rafters for the same reason. Storage units are to be designed and manufactured by "Armor Steel Building ", and they are providing buildings in two configurations: 40ft long and 20ft long buildings. The building supplier has provided us with shop drawings for the buildings, and has indicated that the maximum vertical loads at columns is 870p. Other Toads are less than these, and supplier has indicated that the lateral loads are minimal, and that there is not need for holdowns at the ends of the sheathed walls. We have approached the design from an empirical stand - point. The building conforms to Occupancy category I (minor storage facilities), and so does not need to be founded below the frost depth or other wise protected from frost. Foundations are designed so that the maximum point loads are easily handled using the max assumed bearing of 1,500psf. The footings are continuous with (2)#4 rebar typically, so that point Toads are distributed along the footings. Structural Engineers SOILS AND FOUNDATIONS • 1808.9 Vertical masonry foundation 'elements. Vertical masonry foundation elements that are not foundation piers as defined in Section 2102.1 shall be designed as piers, walls or columns, as applicable, in accordance with TMS 402/ACI 530 /ASCE 5. SECTION 1809 SHALLOW FOUNDATIONS 1809.1 General. Shallow foundations shall be designed and constructed in accordance with Sections 1809.2 through 1809.13. 1809.2 Supporting soils. Shallow foundations shall be built on undisturbed soil, compacted fill material or controlled low- strength material (CLSM). Compacted fill material shall be placed in accordance with Section 1804.5. CLSM shall be placed in accordance with Section 1804.6. 1809.3 Stepped footings. The top surface of footings shall be level. The bottom surface of footings shall be permitted to have a slope not exceeding one unit vertical in 10 units horizontal (10- percent slope). Footings shall be stepped where it is neces- sary to change the elevation of the top surface of the footing or where the surface of the ground slopes more than one unit verti- cal in 10 units horizontal (1 0-percent slope). 1809.4 Depth and width of footings. The minimum depth of footings below the undisturbed ground surface shall be 12 inches (305 mm). Where applicable, the requirements of Sec- tion 1809.5 shall also be satisfied. The minimum width of foot- ings shall be 12 inches (305 mm). 1809.5 Frost protection.
