Per the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and/or the National Electric Code, every permit issued by the Building Division under the provisions of these codes shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the building or work authorized by such permit has not begun within 180 days from the issuance date of such permit, or if the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work has begun for a period of 180 days. Your permit will expire on 06/17/2012. Based on the above, you are hereby advised to: 1) Call the City of Tukwila Inspection Request Line at 206 - 431 -2451 to schedule for the next or final inspection. Each inspection creates a new 180 day period, provided the inspection shows progress. -or- 2) Submit a written request for permit extension to the Permit Center at least seven (7) days before it is due to expire. Address your extension request to the Building Official and state your reason(s) for the need to extend your permit. The Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve one extension of up to 180 days. If it is determined that your extension request is granted, you will be notified by mail. In the event you do not call for an inspection and/or receive an extension prior to 06/17/2012, your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and associated fees. It is important to note that the three structures have already been built. I am merely backtracking to be in compliance. I knew that I needed to apply for the attached shed but was misinformed by the original builder who told me that building the attached structure was already planned by their architect but was reduced to meet the declining economy. So, I naturally thought that they already had the permit to build. Since I never applied for a building permit in my life, my thoughts were simply naive. For the detached shed, the problem is the setback. The detached shed is only two feet from the back property line. It is important to note that all of my three adjacent neighbors and about 10 neighbors in my immediate area all have detached storage within one or two feet from their back property line. So, I am surprised to find out that I am not in compliance. After a full inspection, I hope you can see that it is built solidly: having studs and joist every 16 inches and using 4 X 4 pillars. According to a city inspector the lean -to -roof needs more reinforcement and a permit. I wish the Great City of Tukwila consider keeping the existing structures because they are built with good workmanship and safety in mind. I am willing to build further and add reinforcements as will be recommended by the City.
