This additional lighting power is allowed only if the lighting is actually installed. 11) Provided that a floor plan, indicating rack location and height, is submitted, the square footage for a warehouse may be defined, for computing the interior Unit Lighting Power Allowance, as the floor area not covered by racks plus the vertical face area (access side only) MAY- 2d- 2011(TUE) 05:52 STORY ACOUSTICS INC 4 (41\icy" in (FAX)206625022d P.001/00d 3',tA°'Y w1 $6&'i' Chicago MetaIIic QOM SYstame & shad*/ Produtb Mr. Willie Wood Story Acoustics 5414 184th Street East Suite B • Puyallup, WA 98375 August 23, 2006 ' E C E V E . 1 :` n DEPARTS NT Re: VARIATION TO THE 1496 CLIP ALTERNATIVE PERIMETER DETAIL ASCE 7 -02 SEISMIC DESIGN CATEGORIES D, E. F - SUSPENDED CEILINGS EVERGREEN PLAZA — VARIOUS STORES — BELLEVUE, WA Dear Willie: The use of the 1496 clip with the 1420 wall angle has been accepted by jurisdictions across the country. This arrangement is an alternative to the perimeter installation method prescribed in ASCE 7 -02 Section 9.6.2.6.2.2. Attached is a drawing dated June 23, 2006 that provides a detailed description of the Chicago Metallic 1496 clip alternative perimeter method. When using the Chicago Metallic alternative, the 1496 clip is used on all walls. On two adjacent walls the suspended ceiling (grid) components are "attached" to the wall angle by slipping the 1496 clip over the vertical leg of the wall angle and then screwing the grid to the clip. A variation was proposed that would pop rivet the face of the grid to the horizontal leg of the wall angle in lieu of using the 1496 clip on the two "attached" walls. We have considered this variation and believe it would be equivalent for the following reasons: 1.) The use of the pop rivet in lieu of the 1496 clip is consistent with the intent of ASCE 7 -02 Section 9.6.2.6.2.2 and CISCA Guidelines for Seismic Zones 3 & 4. 2.) The 1496 clip provides over 2 in. of ledge support for grid members on the "unattached" walls where % in. of movement must be accommodated. On the "attached" walls, the grid components are fixed, therefore the clip is merely a means to fix the grid to the wall angle. Pop riveting the face of the grid to the wall angle serves the same purpose. 3.) Acoustical panels at the perimeter will have the same ledge support regardless of the method used to attach the grid on the two required walls. I hope this information is helpful. The clips are used as an alternative to 2- inch -wide (51 mm) wall molding and spreader bars in Seismic Design Categories D, E and F, and as an alternative to spreader bars in Seismic Design Categories A, B and C. 3.0 DESCRIPTION 3.1 1496 Seismic Perimeter Clip: The 1496 Seismic Perimeter Clip is illustrated in Figure 1. The clip is manufactured from minimum 0.0283- inch -thick (0.864 mm) SAE 1075 electra- galvanized steel complying with ASTM A 879. 3.2 Ceiling Framing Members: Ceiling framing members for use with the 1496 perimeter clip 'as described in Section 4.2.1 are No. 200, 270, 280, 640C or 4040C main runners and No. 668C, 6740,1210,1214,1254, 1264, 1274, 1284 or4014C cross runners manufactured by Chicago Metallic Corporation. The Framing members are described in Table 1 of ICC-ES legacy report ER-1905. For use under the IBC for Seismic Design Categories A, B and C as described in Section 4.2.2, coiling framing members may be any suspended ceiling framing recognized in a current ICC-ES evaluation report and complying with the requirements of CISCA 0 -2. 4.0 INSTALLATION 4.1 General: The suspended ceiling framing system must be Installed in accordance with this report and the manufacturer's published Installation instructions. The suspended ceiling framing system must be Installed In accordance with IBC Section 803.9.1.1 for systems not exceeding 4 Ibift2 (19.5 kg /m'). 4.2 Seismic Design: 4,2,1 Alternate Seismic Design Category D. E or F Installation: Under this installation, the main and cross runners must be main and cross runners described In Section 3.2. Maximum total ceiling weight permitted Is 1.8 Ib /ftz (8.78 kg /m'). The 1496 clips are used to secure the main runners and cross runners to the structure on two adjacent walls and to allow free movement of the runners on the two opposing walls. See Figure 2. A nominally 154)-inch-wide (23.81 mm) wall closure (angle) is used in lieu of the 2- Inch -wide (50.8 mm) perimeter wall closure (angle) required In Section 13.5.622 of ASCE -7 for Seismic Design Categories D, E and F. Except for the use of the 1496 clips and the nominally 15/10, Inch -wide (23.8 mm) wall closure (angle), and the elimination of spacer bars, Installation of the ceiling system must be as prescribed by the code. The 1496 dip Is attached to the wall closure by sliding the backplate of the clip over the vertical leg of the wall closure and over the bulb of the runner. On the two adjacent walls where the runners are fixed, the clips are attached to the runner by a sheet metal screw through one of the three pilot holes in the clip. On the walls where the runners are not fixed, the clips allow the terminal runner end to move 2/4 Inch (19.1 mm) towards and away from the wall. The 1496 clips Installed in this manner are an acceptable means of preventing perimeter runners from spreading, in lieu of the spacer bars required in CISCA 3-4. CISCA 3-4 is referenced In ASCE -7, Section 13.5.6.22, which is referenced in IBC Section 1613. 4.2.2 Seismic Design Category A, B or C Installation: The 1498 clip may be used in lieu of spacer bars in suspended ceiling Installations regulated by CISCA 0 -2. Tho 1498 clip Is attached to the wall closure (angle) by sliding tho backplate of the clip over the hem on the vertical leg of the wall closure and over the bulb of the runner. The clips arc placed at the Intersection of all runners and the wall angle. The clips must be positioned to allow a minimum ' /a inch (9.5 mm) movement in both directions. The maximum coiling weight permitted is 1.8 lb/ft2 (12.2 kg /m=). Soo Figure 3. Except for the use of the 1498 clips and the elimination of spacer bars, installation of the ceiling system must be as prescribed by the code. This construction is equivalent to that required by CISCA 0-2, which is referenced In ASCE -7, Section 13.5.6.2.1, which is referenced in IBC Section 1613. g9 REPORTS"' arc not to be eon:trued ar r rereniinx owihellcs or ow other a:Whor v mu specifically uddrasrtl liar ors they to ha ennrnued ar an entronemeni of the subject of'the report urn rocuntmenthiflon for lla it,, 77,.wa iv no warranty by l : Evrduntlun S.rrvfca.
