INSTALLATION Duro -Last, Inc. provides detailed application instructions and training for roofing contractors and consulting services to architects, engineers, and specifiers. The following are general instructions for installing the Duro -Last Roofing System. Deck Surface Preparation: The substrate on which Duro -Last membrane is to be applied must be clean, smooth, free of sharp edges, loose debris, and standing water. Gravel should be leveled. All surface preparations must be done in strict accordance with the Duro -Last application specifications. Insulation: Insulation must be laid on the deck and cut neatly around all penetrations. It must then be attached with approved fasteners according to the Duro -Last specifications. Do not lay more insulation than can be covered in the same day. Stagger the insulation boards 50% from row to row. No gaps to exceed 1/4 inch. Placement: Using the roof layout diagram, select the proper marked and rolled premanufactured sheet of Duro- Last membrane. Orient the membrane so the fastening tabs are perpendicular to the ribs or corrugations of steel deck, or to the width of prestressed concrete "T" slabs. Secure the membrane to the roof deck through the fastening tab with approved fasteners and plates, in accordance with Duro -Last specifications. Unfold the sheet, thus covering the fastening tab. Continue unfolding until the next fastening tab appears. Fasten this tab to the deck and repeat the above process until the complete sheet is installed. Penetrations: During the aforementioned procedure, make cutouts in the membrane for protrusions. Fasten around cutouts with Duro -Last approved fasteners. The skirt of the factory- fabricated accessories when welded to the deck membrane will cover these cutouts. SPEC5D This Spec -Data sheet conforms to the editorial style prescribed by The Construction Specifications Institute. The manufacturer is responsible for technical accuracy. Breather Vents: One Duro -Last two - way breather vent must be installed for each 1,000 ft2 (90 m2). Parapet Walls: Duro -Last custom fabricated parapet wall flashings are designed for each individual application. Secure through the fastening tab at the bottom of the wall using approved fasteners and plates. The factory- welded skirt will cover the fasteners when it is heat welded to the deck sheet. 6. AVAILABILITY AND COST The Duro -Last Roofing System is available throughout the United States and Canada through the Duro -Last dealer /contractor network and independent sales representatives. Following is a general summary of the installation methods. NOTE - Refer to application instructions supplied with the shingles for further information and procedures. Roof Deck Requirements: Apply shingles to minimum 3/8" thick plywood, minimum 7/16" thick non - veneer (e.g. OSB), or minimum 1" thick (nominal) wood decks. The plywood or non - veneer decks must comply with the specifications of APA -The Engineered Wood Association. Ventilation: Provisions for ventilation should meet or exceed current HUD Standards. To best insure adequate ventilation, use a combination of continuous ridge ventilation (using Ridge FilterVent or Ridge Filter ShingleVent II, manufactured by Air Vent Inc, or a comparable product with an external baffle) and balanced soffit venting. Valleys: Valley liner must be applied before shingles. The Closed -Cut valley application method is recommended, using CertainTeed WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment or its equivalent to line the valley prior to being fully covered by the shingles. Underlayment: On slopes 4" per foot or greater, CertainTeed recommends one layer of DiamondDeckTM Synthetic Underlayment, or Roofers' SelectTM High- Performance shingle underlayment, or shingle underlayment meeting ASTM D226, D4869 or ASTM D6757. Always ensure sufficient deck ventilation, and take particular care when DiamondDeck or other synthetic underlayment is installed. For UL fire rating, underlayment may be required. Corrosion - resistant drip edge is recommended and should be placed over the underlayment at the rake and beneath the underlayment at the eaves. Follow manufacturer's application instructions. On low slopes (2" up to 4" per foot), one layer of CertainTeed's WinterGuard Waterproofing Shingle Underlayment (or equivalent meeting ASTM D1970) or two layers of 36" wide felt shingle underlayment (Roofers' Select High- Performance Underlayment or product meeting ASTM D226, D4869 or ASTM D6757) lapped 19" must be applied over the entire roof, ensure sufficient deck ventilation. When DiamondDeck or other synthetic underlayment is installed, weather -lap at least 20" and ensure sufficient deck ventilation. When WinterGuard is applied to the rake area, the drip edge may be installed under or over WinterGuard. At the eave, when WinterGuard does not overlap the gutter or fascia, the drip edge should be installed under WinterGuard. When WinterGuard overlaps the fascia or gutter, the drip edge or other metal must be installed over it. Follow manufacturer's application instructions. Fastening (NailTrakTM): Low & Standard Slopes: On low and standard slopes, four nails are required per shingle. There are three nail lines on NailTrak shingles. Position nails vertically between the upper and lower nailing -guide lines. It is acceptable to nail between either the middle and lower lines or between the upper and middle lines. Nails must be of sufficient length to penetrate into the deck 3/4" or through the thickness of the decking, whichever is less. They are to be located 1" and 12" in from each side of the shingle (see instructions on product wraps.) Nails are to be 11 or 12 gauge, corrosion - resistant roofing nails with 3/8" heads. Steep Slopes: On slopes greater than 21" per foot, fasten each shingle with six nails and four 1" diameter spots of asphalt roofing cement (ASTM D4586 Type II) placed under each shingle according to application instructions provided on the shingle package. Fasteners must penetrate the two -layer common bond area that is indicated by the middle and lower NailTrak lines, also illustrated on the shingle package. A' • • N. Technical Data Sheet (Continued) Landmark Shingles Page 3 of 3 Application: The recommended application method is the 'Five- Course, Diagonal Method' found on each bundle of shingles. In this method, shingle course offsets are 6" and 11". Instructions also may be obtained from CertainTeed. These shingles may be used for new construction or for reroofing over existing Metric -sized shingles. Flashing: Use corrosion- resistant metal flashing. Hips and Ridges: For capping hip and ridge apply CertainTeed Shadow Ridge TM, Cedar CrestTM or Mountain Ridge TM shingles of a like color. MAINTENANCE These shingles do not require maintenance when installed according to manufacturer's application instructions. However, to protect the investment, any roof should be routinely inspected at least once a year. Older roofs should be looked at more frequently. The Building Official has reviewed your letter and considered your request to extend the above referenced permits. Per his discussion and direction to you at the counter on April 5th, D11-297 will not receive an extension. This permit should instead be called in for a final inspection which is on the calendar for today. The work on all the roofs has been completed and the warrantees on them were issued over a year ago, but Ms. carol Martin did not wish to final the permits as we still had to install a ridge vent on the main buildings (not the office building). Please note that the work on the office building has been completed and the warrantee for that building has been issued by DuroLast and that there is no ridge vent work, or any other work for that matter, on that building; the ridge work is only on the main buildings. The ridge vent work is a very small part of the whole work, but unfortunately, however, the work on the ridge vent has not gone as smoothly as the work on the roof itself and DuroLast has not given the contractor a pass and has asked that the contractor redo a lot of the ridge vent work to their specifications. The contractor is very close but has not been able to complete the work to DuroLast satisfaction due to their schedule and weather as of yet and they are working very diligently and hoping to complete the work on time before the permits expire but as of now it seems very unlikely that they will be able to complete the work (given the weather forecast for the next few days) and to get a completion statement from DuroLast in time before our permits expire. Therefore, we are left with basically two options to respectfully ask the City of Tukwila to grant us as they see fit and reasonable as follows: Tti'l'inal pe \mit D11 -297 fo the office building and give us an extension on per main buildings to.co[ttpl a ridge vent work. 2) To give us a final on both permits as the work on the roofs has been comp ed and t • rantees have been issued by DuroLast and that we apply for a new permit for th dge vent work alone. it D11 -296 for If an extension on the existing permit D11 -296 is granted, we wills mit the warranties to the city of Tukwila to finalize the above permits once the work is complete to the DuroLast specifications and we have their warranties with a completion statement for the work on the ridge vent. Please advise us on how you would like us to proceed. WILL CALL I would like to thank you in advance for your kind consid, ration of this matter.
