PART 2 — PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. VAULTS 1. Vaults shall be as manufactured by Utility Vault Company, Old Castle, or Approved Equal. 2. Vaults shall be precast, reinforced concrete sections (top, base, and where required, extension sections) with knockouts or duct terminators PVC end bells or Carlon (utility vault Term -A -Duct) for main conduit entrances with recessed keyways and subsidiary duct entrances. Concrete inserts shall be set in interior surfaces of walls of each section to provide for cable rack mounting. 4. Base section shall be equipped with pulling -in irons located opposite each main cable entrance. 5. Refer to Drawings for vault details. 2.02 VAULT COVERS A. Cover shall be as manufactured of metal casting by Utility Vault Company, Old Castle, Neenah Foundry or Approved Equal, conforming to ASTM A48, Class 35B gray cast iron, with machine finished flat bearing surface. 2.03 PRECAST CONCRETE MATERIALS A. Concrete shall conform to ASTM C478 and as follows: 1. Compressive Strength: 5000 psi minimum at 28 days. 2. Air Content: 4% minimum. 3. Cementitious Materials: Minimum of 564 lb/cu yd. 4. Course Aggregates: ASTM C33. Sound, Crushed, Angular Granite Stone only. Smooth or rounded stone shall not be used. 5. Fine Aggregates: ASTM C33. Free from organic impurities. 6. Chemical Admixtures: ASTM C494. Calcium chloride or admixtures containing calcium chloride shall not be used. 7. Air Entraining Admixtures: ASTM C260. B. Reinforcing steel shall be ASTM A615 grade 60 deformed bar, ASTM A82 wire or ASTM A185 welded wire fabric. C. Lift loops shall be ASTM A416 steel strand. Lifting loops made from deformed bars shall not be allowed. D. Flexible Joint Sealants shall be butyl rubber based conforming to Federal Specification SS- S -210A, AASHTO -198, Type B -Butyl Rubber and maximum of 1 percent volatile matter and suitable for application temperatures between 10 °F and 100 °F. E. Epoxy gels shall be two- component, solvent -free, moisture - insensitive, high modulus, high strength, structural epoxy paste adhesive meeting ASTM C- 881, Type I and II, Grade 3, Class B and C, epoxy resin adhesive. 2.04 COMPONENTS A. Precast components shall be manufactured as described in this paragraph and in the following paragraphs for specific components. B. Lifting inserts, holes, and devices shall comply with OSHA Standard 1926.704. Lift holes and inserts shall be sized for precision fit with lift devices and shall not penetrate through structure wall. Precast Manufacturer shall provide lifting devices in a timely manner as to not adversely impact Project Schedule.. C. External seals shall consist of polyethylene backed flat butyl rubber sheet no Tess than 1/16" thick and 6" wide applied to outside perimeter of joint. 2. Internal seals shall consist of plastic or paper- backed butyl rubber rope no Tess than 14 ft long and having cross - sectional area no less than annular space times height of joint. 3. At option of Contractor, internal seals on round joints may consist of 0- ring gasket conforming. to ASTM C443, installed according to Precast Manufacturer's recommendation. D. Precast base sections shall be cast monolithically without construction joints or with approved galvanized or PVC water stop cast in the cold joint between base slab and walls. E. Wall and inside slab finish resulting from casting against forms standard for industry shall be acceptable. F. Form ties through the wall are not allowed. G. Exterior slab surfaces below grade shall have float finish. H. Small surface holes, normal color variations, normal form joint marks, and minor depressions, chips, and spalls will be tolerated. I. Dimensional tolerances shall be as set forth in appropriate references. J. Conduit openings shall not extend into corners of structures, but may extend across joint with Project Representative's approval. K. Knockout panel dimensions shall be as required by structural design at their maximum burial depth using design Toads specified herein. L. Components shall be manufactured in accordance with ACT, ASTM C890 and shall meet the following load requirements: 1. Horizontal load on walls and knockout panels shall be load of 80 psf per foot of burial depth (using a burial depth of 20 ft) plus a live lateral surcharge due to HS20 traffic load of 80 psf. 2. Vertical load on below grade adaptor slabs and tops shall be fill height of 20 ft assuming soil unit weight of 100 lb/ft, plus live HS20 traffic load. 3. Vertical Toad on covers supported around perimeter shall be live HS20 traffic load. M. Rectangular sub -grade components shall be manufactured in conformance with ASTM C913 and as follows: 1. Joints between precast components shall be keyways or tongue and groove. Joints to accept cast iron frames shall be flat and no less than 5" wide. 2. Construct access vault structures to sizes and elevations shown on Drawings. N. Manholes and hardware: 1. Each manhole shall be provided with one galvanized 3/4" rebar x 16" wide bolt -on ladder, mounting pads, and mounting hardware. Rungs shall be at 12" centers. Side rails shall be 2" x 5/16" flat bar. Pull -In Irons: 1. Each wall of each vault will have a 7/8" hot - dipped galvanized pull -in iron centered under the new and future duct line openings. Pull -in irons will be McGraw - Edison, Joslyn, Oliver or Approved Equal. P. Vault Cable Rack Hardware: 1. Cable Rack: Chance #1225 or Approved Equal. 2. .Cable Rack Hooks: Chance #1231 or Approved Equal. 3. Cable Rack Insulators: Chance #1121 or Approved Equal. Q. Grade Rings: 1. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 REQUIREMENTS FOR PRECAST CONCRETE VAULTS A. Coordinate delivery of precast concrete vault and handholes components and hardware to Project Site with manufacturer. B. Handling of materials shall be done in accordance with ASTM C891 and manufacturer's recommendations. C. Components shall be handled and stored on Project Site using methods that will prevent damage. 3.02 PLACING PRECAST CONCRETE VAULTS A. Excavate to required depth and remove materials that are unstable or unsuitable for good foundation in accordance with Section 02300 - Earthwork. B. Prepare level, compacted foundation extending six (6) inch beyond base. C. Set base plumb and level. D. Thoroughly clean bells and spigots to remove dirt and other foreign materials that may prevent sealing. E. Unroll butyl sealant rope directly against spigot or keyway. Leave protective wrapper attached until sealant is entirely unrolled. Do not stretch. Overlap from side to side - not top to bottom. F. When recommended by manufacturer, fill void between horizontal joint surfaces with sand cement grout around the outside perimeter. G. After joining sections, apply butyl sealant sheet around outside perimeter of joint. H. Lift holes leaving Tess than two (2) inch of wall thickness shall be plugged from outside using sand cement mortar then covered with butyl rubber sheet. Set frames or tops to required elevation sealing joints with butyl sealant rope and sheet. K. Provide pulling -in irons opposite and above each conduit entrance. L.
