HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-04-12 Regular MinutesThe regular monthly meeting of the council of the town of Tukwila was called to order by the Mayor on the above date at 8:00 p. m. Mayor John R. Walkup add councilmen E. F. Greene, J. R. Cumming and Philip Koenig were present. The minutes of the last regular meeting were read by the clerk and apporved by the council. BILLS: The following bills were read by the clerk and all were approved by the finance committee and ordered paid except the bill of the firm, Wright, Froude, Allen and Hilen. There was some question of the justice of this bill and the payment was deferred: J. A. Duff J. A. Duff H. E. Ives B. A. Foreman Puget Sound Power Light Co. Riverton Gargge H. Osman Mrs. C. Rounce Wright, Froude, Allen Hilen M. Lemon Marine National Bank Marine National Bank A motion that all the bills with the one exception be paid and warrants drawn for their respective amounts was made, seconded and carried. COMMUNICATIONS: Various letters were read by the clerk. The letter from Mr. Hilen stating that Willis T. 3atchellor Inc. was threat— ening suit for the sum of $50 provoked considerable discussion. The general opinion was that he should be allowed to proceed with the suit. A motion was finally made, seconded and carried that the council allow the matter to go to trial. The treasurer's report of the financial condition of the Town of Tukwila was read by the clerk and ordered filed by the Mayor. A recommendation was made Oat more pea gravel be placed upon the streets as funds permitt— ed. It was further recommended that all brush be cut ofif the streets. Mr. Ton asked that brush be cut on Riverside Ave. J. Durbin asked that some gravel be placed upon Maul Ave. H. E. Ives reported that Wilson Hill and also Tukwila Ave. were in need of some repairs. The Mayor asked that the councilmen make a survey of the streets as soon as possible to determine what work was necessary. COMMITTEE REPORTS CON'T. The chairman of the water committee reported that there was nothing especially to report in regard to water. The Mayor explained the effort being made to get Seattle to aid Tukwila in installing its water system. He said that the indications were for a favorable report from the Seattle Council. OLD BUSINESS: The clerk reported that no ordinance regulating the dis- posal of garbage could be found in the ordinance books of the Town of Tukwila. The Mayor requested the law and ordinance committee to have an ordinance ready for the next council meeting. The clerk stated that he had addressed a letter regard- ing the town flagpole to the Puget Sound Power Light Co. but that he had not received any reply from them. The clerk further stated that if the corners at the in- tersection of Kenny and Clarence and at the intersection of Divis- ion and Outlet were to be widened that the work should be author- ized by the council and that appropriations should be made accord- ingly. The Mayor called the attention of the council to these two corners and -asked that they pay particular attention to them when they made the survey of the streets. He stated that this work was of urgent character and should be carried out at the earl®est time possible. NEW BUSINESS: No further business appearing the council adbourned at 9 :18 p. m. upon a motion duly made, seconded and carried.
