HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-05-10 Regular MinutesBILLS: Current Expense Fund Tukwila, Washington, May 10, 1928 The regular monthly meeting; of the council of the town of Tukwila was called to order by the Mayor at 8:00 p.m. Mayor John R. Walkup and councilmen Philip Koenig, James Cummings and E. F. Greene were present. The mbhutes of the last regular meeting were read by the clerk and approved by the council. J. A. Duff H. E. The entire list was approved by the finance committee and a motion that they be paid and warrants drawn for their respective amounts was made, second- ed and carried. The monthly report of the financial condition of the town of Tukwila submitted by the town treasurer was read by the clerk and filed by order of the I•iayor. The road committee reported that an inspection of all the streets and roads in the corporate limits had been made and a written report had been filed with the clerk. This report was read by the clerk and placed on file. The chairman of the street committee made the following additional report: Two ladds of gravel were placed on Maul Ave.; three on First Ave.; one on outlet; two on Division; one at Erickson's corner; and two on Tukwila Ave. The cost of widening the corner at the intersection of Kenny and Clar- ence has been estimated at $35.00 exclusive of gravel for the sur- face. The cost of widening the intersection at Outlet and Divis- ion has been estimated at $80.00 exclusive of gravel for the sur- face. The flagpole across from the postoffice is ready for remo- val. A motion that appropriations for the improvements re- commended in the road committee's report be made and that the work go forward at once was made, seconded and carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS CON'T. The water committee reported that a bid fort the gener- al obligation bonds had been received from the State Board of Finance. Upon order of the Mayor the clerk peened the sealed bid and read it. After a short discussion a motion that the bid be accepted was made,and;sedofideddand omethe role call the vote was OLD BUSINESS: Mr. Koenig, Yes Mr. Cumming Yes Mr. Greene Yes An ordinance relating to the disposal of garbage with- in the town limits was introduced by the law and ordinance com- mittee and was read by the clerk. After some changes had been made it was placed on its first reading. An emergency having been declared the ordinance was then placed on its second and third readings. A motion that the ordinance be accepted and in- corporated into the ordinances of the Town of Tukwila was made and seconded and on the role call the vote was NSW BUSINESS: Approved Mr. Koenig Yes Mr1 Cumming Yhs:< Mr. Greene Yes Mr. Scheuer arose to ask what the council intended to do with the money resulting from the sale of the bonds to the State Board of Finance. He declared it his belief that the other bonds were not salable and that inasmuch as a water system could not be installed for $14,000 it was folly to sell them. The Mayor replied at length, explaining that no one knew whether the bonds could be sold as no attempt had been made to sell them. He said that every thing depended upon the sale of general obligation bonds to the State Board of Finance. He asked that every one withhold judgment until the plans under way had had time to materialize. Mr. Greene asked that the permission given him by the street committee to repair and rebuild his four -foot sidewalk be made a part of the minutes so as "to be a matter of record.
