The existing structure has an exterior CMU wall construction, with interior steel post & beam framing, with open -web steel joists supporting the metal roof decking. The Mechanical unit is proposed near a column support to reduce flexural stress influence on the steel framing. The proposed roof -top mechanical unit is a heat pump by Lennox Industries (Model: HKA048S4D; Y PKGHP/ 4 TON/ 230 -3) measuring 47" wide x 83" long x 39" high and weighing approximately 600 poi n The -prvo etlmiirwill-brinstalled-atop-a- manufacturer =provided curb- that-will be locatec> -atop- two structural steel channels - one aligned over the steel beam along the deck trough, and one spanning between the open web steel truss and steel beam in a trough location. Secondary steel channel supports should bolt between the cap plates at either end of the primary support channels to provide lateral rigidity, and support under the ends of the mechanical unit curb. Connection between the steel deck and the channel may be made with either #10 self tapping screws, or with spot welds. Please reference the attached partial plan SK -1 & detail SK -2. Lateral seismic and wind design anchorage analysis is per the requirements of the ASCE 7 -05 and IBC 2009 building design codes for translation & overturning considerations.
