Principal Electrical Engineer Report date: November 30, 2010 TABLE OF CONTENTS Section Description 1.0 Field evaluation overview 2.0 Field evaluation summary 3.0 List of equipment 4.0 Electrical standards 5.0 Equipment evaluation details 6.0 Electrical tests performed 7.0 Evaluation results 1.0 FIELD EVALUATION OVERVIEW 1.1 The National Electrical Code (NEC ®) stipulates that "the conductors and equipment required or permitted by this code shall be acceptable only if approved" by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The NEC further states that "suitability of equipment may be identified by a description marked on or provided with a product to identify the suitability of the product for a specific purpose, environment or application. Suitability of equipment may be evidenced by listing or labeling" 1.2 When electrical utilization equipment or machinery has not been listed or labeled by an independent third party listing or labeling agency, field evaluation of the equipment or machinery is required by the local electrical authority having jurisdiction to determine if the equipment complies with the applicable product standards and codes that are concerned with the safety of that equipment. The field evaluation is required to be performed by an independent testing laboratory or engineering firm accredited by the AHJ using the applicable national product standards that govern the design, construction, application and testing of the equipment. The field evaluation body shall provide a label on the equipment evaluated signifying that the equipment has satisfied the requirements of the applied standards. The field evaluation body shall forward a copy of the final report to the AHJ detailing the field evaluation procedures, findings, results and the criteria for submitting the product to the AHJ for final acceptance. 1.3 Product safety standards are created to address electrical shock and fire safety concerns in the areas encompassing device construction, overcurrent protection, temperature rise, grounding and bonding, guarding of energized components from mechanical actions within or outside the equipment, guarding personnel from live parts, tamper proofing, operating environment, safety of personnel during unintended abnormal operations and product testing to verify suitability of use on the product in a defined operating environment. 2.0 FIELD EVALUATION SUMMARY Field evaluation of the equipment listed in section 3.0 was performed on November 17, 2010, per the requirements of WAC- 296 -46B (44) at Sahale Snacks, Tukwila, Washington. The equipment was inspected and tested to verify conformity with the requirements of the applicable electrical standards listed in section 4.0. The installation of the equipment was examined to ensure that it is per the requirements of the manufacturer's technical drawings and documentation. The discrepancies identified by PSE and corrected by the client during the course of the evaluation are shown in section 5.0 along with the corrective actions taken. PSE field evaluation label was affixed to the equipment. RECEIVED NOV 16 2010 PERMITCENTER FILE COPY Permit No., Exhaust System install t o When Proctor provides an exhaust fan on the roof of a dryer and the ductwork from the dryer to the exhaust fan, the ductwork layout will be shown on the General Arrangement Drawing. Proctor normally provides drilled and tapped support blocks welded to the roof caps and a rigid support frame for the fan. Refer to Figure J1 . Exhaust openings are cut and ferruled in the panels, and risers are furnished with dampers. Properly sized trunk lines will be furnished for connecting the risers to the fan, but you must supply any support required for the trunk line. Exhaust Fan Mounting if you plan to mount the exhaust an at some location remote from the dryer, Proctor will normally furnish ferruled holes in the panels. At additional cost, flanged outlets can be furnished in the panels. 1. Mount the tan and furnish ductwork and any necessary dampers from the dryer to the fan. Ductwork should be sized properly for required air flows. Fans are normally' sized for a 11 /2" (3.81 cm) total Water Column pressure. WITH GAS-FIRED DRYERS, ALL DAMPERS MUST BE CUT BACK TO HAVE A 25% OPEN AREA WHEN THE DAMPERS ARE CLOSED. Fig. J1 Fan & Ductwork Support Frame I 11 1 1 1 I i) The exhaust fan should be mounted on a base which is rigid and plumb. All external fans must be suitably Interlocked. Install protective guards on all external moving parts within 7 ft. (2.1 m) of a working platform to protect from mechanical acci- dents or possibilities of causing personal injury. 2. After the exhaust system is installed and ready for operation, THE FAN SPEED SHOULD BE SET TO CORRESPOND WITH THAT SHOWN ON THE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT DRAWING. Ductwork Layout Proctor does not normally furnish ducting from the exhaust fan, or fans, to the atmosphere. Refer to Figure #38 for the recommended construction of ducts that are outside of the building. THESE DUCTS SHOULD NOT BE FABRICATED SMALLER THAN THE FAN OUTLET AT ANY POINT. ANY RESTRICTION OF THE AIR FLOW COULD SERIOUSLY AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE DRYER. Refer to the General Arrangment Drawing for the ductwork layout when it is furnished by Proctor. Refer to the contract to see who is responsible for furnishing of the ductwork and fan mounting. EXHAUST DUCT - SIZE NO SMALLER THAN OUTLET OF FAN. Ductwork furnished by Proctor is uninsu- lated sheet metal and must be insulated as required in the field. Proper Insulation will prevent personnel bums, overheating of combustible materials, and condensation in the ductwork. If you need assistance in de- termining the appropriate type of insulation, contact Proctor. Ductwork Construction Requirements Use ductwork constructed entirely of sheet steel or other noncombustible material, and of adequate strength and rigidity to meet the conditions of service and installation requirements. Protect ductwork where subject to physical damage. Wherever furnace ducts or stacks pass through combustible walls, floors, or roofs, you must provide noncombustible insulation or clearance or both to prevent surface temperatures exceeding 160 °F (71°C). Do not use any rooms or portions of the building as an integral part of the system. NOTE: The entire duct system should be self- contained. All ducts must be tight throughout and should have no openings other than those required for the operation and maintenance of the system. Brace ducts thoroughly where required and substantially support with metal hangers or brackets. NOTE: All laps in the duct joints should be made in the direction of the flow. Where ducts pass through noncombustible walls, floors, or partitions, seal the space around the duct with noncombustible material to prevent the passage of flame and smoke. a nst; Uaflon, CONTINUED J2 NOTE: The passing of ducts through fire walls should be avoided. For ducts handling fumes which leave a combustible deposit, provide cleanout doors. Such ducts must be constructed of not less than 16 gauge steel or equivalent. Any hand -holes for inspection, resetting, and cleanout must have tight - fitting doors or covers with substantial latches, except in the case of vertical sliding doors held In place by gravity. Air volume contra) dampers must be de- signed so that, when in closed position, they will pass the volume required for safe ventilation. If electrically or mechanically controlled dampers are used, limit switches must be included to ensure proper position of the dampers, including those used as gas barriers on carbon dioxide extinguishing systems. Locate the dryer to prevent excessive emission of objectionable fumes into the building. Install protective guards around all exposed hot fan casings and hot ducts within 7 ft. (2.1 m) of the building floor to prevent injury to personnel [temperature not to exceed 160 °F (71°C)). If natural convection is not adequate in confined areas, forced ventilation should be provided in order to protect against any harmful fumes and vapors that might be generated. Care must also be taken when using sealants, solvents or flammable adhesive during installation. Storage Protect stored insulation from water damage or other abuse. • Protect from welding sparks and open flame. • Packages are not designed for outside storage. Preparation • Apply Knauf KwikFlex Pipe and Tank Insulation on clean, dry surfaces. kVA jllNSULATIITh • fb fiwit h tAVe ever Application For easy installation of Knauf KwikFlex Pipe and Tank Insulation simply follow these guidelines. • Refer to the Stretchout Chart to find the appropri- ate length to cut for the specific pipe size. Be sure to add an additional 2" (51 mm) to 4" (102 mm) for your staple flap. • Cut your stretchout length and wrap the material around the iron pipe to ensure the proper fit. • Staple the lap on 3" (76 mm) centers with outward clinching staples. • Butt edges shall be firmly secured, and butt strips matching the jacket shall be applied at each joint. Caution Fiber glass may cause temporary skin irritation. Wear long- sleeved, loose - fitting clothing, head covering, gloves and eye protection when handling and applying material. Wash with soap and warm water after han- dling. Wash work clothes separately and rinse washer. A disposable mask designed for nuisance type dusts should be used where sensitivity to dust and airborne particles may cause irritation to the nose or throat. Fiber Glass and Mold Fiber glass insulation is not a food source for mold growth. However, mold can grow on almost any material when it becomes wet and contaminated with organic materials. Carefully inspect any insulation that has been exposed to water. If it shows any sign of mold growth it must be discarded. If the material is wet but shows no evidence of mold, it should be dried rapidly and thoroughly. If it shows signs of facing degradation from wetting, it should be replaced. We have based our review on information provided by Sahale Snacks. Our structural checks included a review of the roaster legs and the anchorage of the legs to the supporting foundation. The design information provided by Sahale Snacks includes the following: 1. Assumed weight of the roaster is 30,000 pounds. 2. Overall dimensions of the roaster are approximately 10' -6" x 33' -0" with 3' -5" tall legs. The overall height of the roaster is 9' -0 ". 3. The columns are a mix of (5) 4x4 tube steel and (5) 4x2 tube steel columns. Based on our review, the roaster is adequate to resist gravity and seismic loading. Please address the following comments in an itemized format with revised plans, specifications and /or other applicable documentation. (GENERAL NOTE) PLAN SUBMITTALS: (Min. size 11x17 to maximum size of 24x36; all sheets shall be the same size). (If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets shall be original signed wet stamped, not copied.) 1. Per the J1 and J2 pages titled Exhaust system Installation provided in this permit application; • The cooling exhaust needs to be ducted to the exterior of the building. • The exhaust ducts need to be insulated to prevent interior surface temperatures near the exhaust from exceeding 160 degrees. A note says that if you need assistance in determining the proper insulating material you should contact Procter. 2. Where the exhaust is pressurized via a draft inducing fan, the positive pressure duct will need sealed joints. 3. Make -up air will need to be provided or otherwise accounted for with calculations. 4. Please provide listing information for this oven or provide a third party field evaluation by an accredited listing agency. 5. Please provide an engineered design and details for securing this oven in place to prevent movement during a seismic event. 6. Per NFPA 86, class B ovens are required to have a manual emergency switch to initiate a safety shutdown. Typically this switch is located at the main exit door leaving the room and stops the gas flow to the oven. The safety shutdown should be via a listed EPO (Emergency Power Off) type switch. Should there be questions concerning the above requirements, contact the Building Division at 206 -431- 3670.
