Tukwila, Washington 98188 Jim Haggerton, Mayor •e: for that position will be happening soon. Overall, he stated that the Tukwila Police Department does not have the same staffing issues that other agencies are currently facing (with an average of 5 -10 vacant police officer positions per agency). Commissioners inquired about Tukwila's success with recent hiring efforts and being able to maintain full staffing in the Department. Chief Villa responded that he attributed the success to their decision in 2013 to devote time and resources to the recruitment effort, mainly in terms of assigning a recruitment officer and a detective to devote 100% of their time to recruitment and backgrounding police officer candidates. He also explained that substantial work has gone into pre -hire screening and testing to ensure that the Department is getting quality officers that will contribute to the Department's mission, vision and values.
