Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items. I. Intergovernmental Update • SeaTac Sustainable Airport Master Plan — Transportation Review Committee: On October 20 Public Works staff attended the 2nd quarterly meeting with the Port of Seattle Planning staff to discuss local and regional impacts of proposed airport terminal expansions. • Association of County /Cities Information Systems Conference: Mary Miotke attended the Association of County /Cities Information Systems (ACCIS) Conference October 21- 23. Agenda Topics include: Vendor Fair, Current City /County issues, State & Local Government, System Security, Strategic Planning, Microsoft Licensing and Technology Trends. • Local Records Committee Meeting: On October 22 City Attorney Rachel Turpin, City Clerk Christy O'Flaherty, Administrative Supervisor Barbara Saxton and Tukwila Police Records staff hosted a meeting with the Office of the Secretary of State Local Records Committee, the City of Kent, the City of Olympia and King County. The Local Records Committee establishes records retention requirements for government agencies. II. Community Events • Duwamish Alive!: DCD staff participated in the Duwamish Alive! event on October 17 to help improve shoreline habitat. Great progress has been made over the last three years at the Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU) site clearing invasive plants and planting native vegetation. At Saturday's event, almost soo native plants were installed and mulched and additional blackberries were removed. • World of Dance Competition: October 17 -18 the World of Dance competition came to the Community Center. This event has been held around the world including London, Moscow, Singapore and many other locations. There were over woo spectators and over 400 competitors on Saturday. In addition they hosted dance classes all weekend. This event was such a success they have already booked another date for September 2016. Phone: 206- 433 -1800 • Email: Mayor @Tuk aWA.gov • Website: TukwilaWA.gov 57 City Administrator Report October 28, 2015 Page 2 • Sea Mar Youth at Tukwila Community Center: Since January residents of Sea Mar Youth Treatment Center have been coming to TCC for fitness room and open gym visits so they can be physically active and have social interaction outside of their treatment facility. Sea Mar Youth Treatment Center is a local agency that specializes in dealing with male minors who have had difficulty with substance abuse, but are now in treatment. • Somali Women's Only Fitness Program: In partnership with Global to Local, TCC is offering the 4th Cycle of the Somali Women's Only Fitness Program. 35 women ranging in ages from 25 to nearly 8o are enrolled in the program. • C.A.R.E. Night at Cascade View: Staff from Fire, Parks & Recreation and Police attended Cascade View's fall C.A.R.E. Night on October 21. Over 500 people attended the event to receive free clothing as well as to gather information from local community groups. Strong - Bridge Consulting, LLC, one of the partners /donors for the City's Spirit of Giving, donated warm socks and new underwear to each Cascade View student. • Washington Recreation & Park Association Business Institute: On October 22, for the third year in a row, TCC hosted the Washington Recreation & Park Association Business Institute with 3.5o state wide recreation professionals in attendance. In addition WRPA also hosted a two day Parks Maintenance training Wednesday and Thursday that included another 5o parks professionals from around the state. • Foster High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA): Finance Director Peggy McCarthy recently met with Foster's FBLA club. The club will be drafting letters to the business community asking for financial assistance to help defray travel costs to the state competition in Spokane that will be held in the spring. • Community Safety Conversation: On October 22 Project Development Manager Joyce Trantina facilitated a community safety conversation which brought Police, Fire, Emergency Management and other City staff together with parents and children representing some of Tukwila's diverse communities. The City's Community Connectors led small discussion groups, shared feedback and provided interpretation assistance. III. Staff Updates Public Safety • Problem Oriented Policing Conference: The Tukwila Anti -Crime Team gave a presentation on the Take Back Our Boulevard operations at the Problem Oriented Policing Conference in Portland Oregon. This was an international conference with attendees from several different countries. Feedback from attendees at the conference, which has presenters from all over the world, was that Tukwila's presentation was one of the best of the conference. Project Updates • Outback /Bonefish Grill Dual- Concept Restaurant: A pre - application meeting was held for a proposed dual- concept restaurant project, combining Outback Steak House with Bonefish Grill, on the north side of Westfield Mall opposite Macy's. The restaurants will share kitchen space, but retain their individual character and building design. This will be the first stand- alone Outback /Bonefish Grill dual- concept restaurant in Washington State. We are a few short weeks away from completion. The Duwamish Alive event had about 6o volunteers doing a variety of work. • Tukwila International Boulevard Community Transformation: Six bids were received on October 22 for the Urban Renewal Motel Demolition Project that will demolish the three motels and the Smoke Shop on TIB. Construction Group International, LLC submitted the apparent low bid of $470,247.75 with the Engineer's Estimate at $635,839.13. The bid award is scheduled for the November 9 Committee of the Whole meeting. • Interurban Ave S Roadway: The goal is to complete base paving on the west side of Interurban Avenue prior to the winter storms. The curb and gutter placement on the west side from Fort Dent to nearly 149th has been completed. Base paving in this area should be complete by the end of the week. Walsh continues to prep grade for the remaining curb and gutter placement from 149th to the north end of the project (143rd) early next week. • TUC Pedestrian - Bicycle Bridge over the Green River: The draft l00% plans have been distributed for review. ROW acquisition and permitting approvals continue and the Shorelines Variance hearing was held on October 26. • Transit Plan Update: Public outreach strategies are underway including an online survey and a pop -up Open House. The online survey will be available in English, Spanish, and Somali. The pop up Open House is tentatively scheduled for November 2 from 3 -7pm at Saars. Live interpretation services will be provided. • Facilitative Leadership Training: Human Resources coordinated Facilitative Leadership Trainings by John Luthy held on October 26 and 28 for Finance and Parks & Recreation staff. • 2015 Washington State Lean Transformation Conference: Staff from Administration, Finance and Police attended the 2015 Washington State Lean Transformation Conference.
