Committee's scope of review
Level of service
•Demand for emergency medical and fire response
Fire facility /equipment needs and conditions
Fire Code and Emergency Management
Findings — Tukwila Fire
Provides good service and fast response because of the
community's investment in station locations
Is well respected and appreciated by the residential and
business community
•Long history and specialized teams such as HazMat and
Rescue
Needs additional support to replace stations and
equipment and leadership certainty
Findings-RFA
Nationally accredited and well respected
•Innovative in creating partnerships and programs
A regional model where City would be part owner of the
organization with three members on the Governing Board
A more equitable funding model that comes with a higher
cost for some
Question
Should the City invest in the existing local Fire Department
or would it be more efficient to consolidate with the existing
regional model?
Recommendation
We find that the positives outweigh the negatives and while
not a unanimous decision, the majority of the Committee
members recommend moving forward with annexation to
the Kent RFA.
