DATE ATTACHMENTS 1/4/2016 Informational Memorandum dated December 15, 2015 2 ILA h, p Z of Tukwila Jim Haggerton, Mayor .nom 1908 INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: MAYOR HAGGERTOT DATE: DECEMBER 15, 2015 SUBJECT: REAPPOINTMENTS TO THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AND THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD AND NEW APPOINTMENTS TO THE ARTS COMMISSION AND THE HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD ISSUE There are a few positions on our Boards and Commissions whose terms will expire in the near future. I am recommending reappointment of the existing members as follow: Civil Service Commission Position #1: The term of Bruce Paquette will expire December 31, 2015 and I am recommending that he be reappointed. His new term will expire on December 31, 2021. Library Advisory Board Position #3: The term of Marie Parrish will expire December 31, 2015 and I am recommending that she be reappointed. Her new term will expire on December 31, 2017. Position #5: The term of Linda McLeod will expire December 31, 2015 and I am recommending that she be reappointed. Her new term will expire on December 31, 2017. Arts Commission Student Representative: I have attached the application of Daniel Humkey for your consideration. Daniel attends Foster High School and is interested in many different art forms. I am recommending that Daniel be appointed to the Student Representative position on the Arts Commission. His position will expire in June, 2016. Human Services Advisory Board There are currently several vacancies on the Human Services Advisory Board (HSAB). Position #5: I have attached the application of Jonathan Joseph for your consideration. Mr. Joseph works for BECU and is a Tukwila resident. He will bring valuable professional experience to the HSAB. I am recommending that Mr. Joseph be appointed to Position #5. His term will expire on April 30, 2017. Hobbies /Interests: I enjoy many visual and expressive forms of art. This includes drawing, painting, and graphic design along with dancing and creating choreography. I have more recently gained an interest in bettering my school through service projects. Qualifications as related to this position: I have created many graphic designs for Foster High School, including shirt designs, logos, awards, slide shows, and occasional posters /signs for teachers. I have also planned school art projects at Foster that have yet to take place. I worked on a commissioned piece for a student - written children's book. As a high' school student passionate about the arts I can contribute the point of view of a student who will be affected by some of the choices made in the arts commission. Moderator for local Mayoral Candidate Forum Equity and Diversity Commission for the city of Tukwila- started in 2002 Created a community access guide that was published in multiple languages so that a majority of residents would be able to read the information. Became an active link between the Tukwila School District and the Tukwila City council. Sponsored citizenship classes to prepare residents for the citizenship test. Partnered with local immigration attorneys to sponsor national citizenship days in which we helped Tukwila residents fill out citizenship paperwork and prepare for citizenship tests. Supported the Multi- cultural Action committee at the high school, which helped promote diversity and teach respect and tolerance of differences within our community. Created alliances with other cities in King county to promote a united message against racism and intolerance of others. Chaired the committee for two terms, which consisted of representatives from local businesses, the school district, residents and city council members. Was appointed vice -chair for two years.
