The following comments should be addressed: 1. The General Notes, Sheets T and S 1, as well as the structural calculations, refer to the 1994 edition of the Uniform Building Code. All references should be made to the 1997 edition of UBC. 2. The Structural Notes, Sheet S 1, should specify that all welding shall be performed by WABO certified welders. 3. The Concrete Section of the General Notes addresses only structural steel. Please verify the correct title for this section. 4. The calculations appear to design for a total prefabricated metal building load of 36 kips; however, the Framing Plan, Sheet S 1, indicates a maximum load of 40 kips. Please clarify the maximum load of the prefabricated metal building. 5. There are several steel beam -to -beam as well as steel beam -to- concrete connections shown on Sheet S 1. Calculations should be submitted for review qualifying the design of these connections. 6. Seismic load for the prefabricated metal building is checked on calculation page E -4; however, lateral load due to wind should also be checked per UBC Section 1615. In addition, the seismic load calculations appear to be consistent with the UBC 1994 edition; however, calculations should be submitted verifying that the criteria set forth in the UBC 1997 edition has been satisfied. The total number of fire extinguishers required for . your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B :C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) Portable fire extinguishers shall be securely installed on the hanger or in the bracket supplied, placed in cabinets or wall recesses. The hanger or bracket shall be securely and properly anchored to the mounting surface in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The extinguisher shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 feet above the floor and the clearance between the bottom of the extinguisher and the floor shall not be less than 4 inches. Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit.
