While in route, crews saw a thermal column in the area they were being dispatched to. They upgraded the incident to a working fire, which sent a total of four fire engines, two ladder trucks, an aid car, two battalion chiefs, and a South King County Paramedic unit. Units from Renton Fire Department and the Kent Fire Authority assisted our units at the fire. We also had our Zone Three Fire Explorers there assisting with rehabilitation of the firefighters on scene. Prior to arrival of the fire department, the Tukwila Police Department arrived. Two officers received information that someone was still in the house. With the house full of smoke, the officers bravely entered the house and rescued one adult male. That adult male sustained smoke inhalation, as did the two police officers that rescued him. All three were treated on scene by our paramedics, and then sent to hospitals, as a precaution, to be checked out by emergency room doctors. We are grateful to report that the two officers were treated and released later that evening. At the time of this press release, I have not heard any more about the status of the adult male. His injuries were not life threatening. Upon arrival of the first fire unit, they found smoke and flames coming from windows on the second floor. The flames were so intense, it melted siding on the houses adjacent to the fire. Crews did an excellent quick attack on the fire and were able to prevent it from catching the neighboring houses on fire. Police and fire officers determined early that the fire was intentionally set. Police and Fire investigators are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. One adult male was detained at the scene as a person of interest. The investigation continues. The damage was extensive and the home could possibly be a total loss. The dollar loss is expected to be over $200,000. 6200 Southcenter Blvd. Tukwila, WA 98188 • Phone (206)433 -1808 • Records Fax (206)244 -6181 We would like to recognize the bravery and express our respect to the officers who risked their lives to rescue the male occupant.
