At approximately 4:10 am this morning, the Tukwila Fire Department was dispatched to
a two story, multi - family apartment fire in the 3400 block of S. 146th Street. Upon
arrival, crews found smoke and flames from a second floor apartment, and upgraded
the incident to a working fire. A "working fire" dispatches a total of four fire engines, two
ladder trucks, an aid car, two battalion chiefs, and a South King County Paramedic unit.
Units from Burien, King County Fire District 20, North Highline Fire Department and the
Kent Fire Authority assisted our units at the fire. We also had our Zone Three Fire
Explorers there assisting with rehabilitation of the firefighters on scene.
Upon arrival of the first fire unit, they found smoke and flames coming from windows on
the second floor. Crews did an excellent quick attack on the fire and were able to
prevent it from spreading to the adjoining apartments on either side.
Fire investigators are on scene investigating the exact cause of the fire. In all, seven
units had some level of damage, either from the fire or water damage. Red Cross
responded and is assisting four families with housing.
Fire damage was extensive to two units. The dollar loss is expected to be over $50,000.
