NEW BUSINESS
Jenny McCoy thanked the Commission for the financial support, which actually got the Snack
Pack Program started and moving forward. She shared information about a recent food drive
with Macy's and Inspiris. Currently the program provides food for 113 students at Thorndyke
and Cascade, with hopes of expanding to Tukwila Elementary. The program has expanded to 4
public donation sites with over 30 volunteers who assist in tracking inventory, packing and
distribution. The program hopes to serve 150 students next year. They recently incorporated,
calling the program "Still Waters" and are working on a 501C3 status with the State. The Board
includes representatives from the City, clergy groups, school districts, businesses and others.
She provided Commissioners with a copy of the latest shopping list for the program.
Commissioners discussed the needs of the program, and their desire to support the Program
through a food drive. For the past few years, the Equity and Diversity Commission has
sponsored a book drive during the month of May. This year, the group would like to redirect
those efforts in support of the Snack Pack Program, by soliciting contributions from City
employees. Having a building /building or department /department "competition" could be very
useful in raising the level of contribution, it was suggested that the Commission make collection
bins available at several City locations, provide a flyer and utilize other outreach tools, and then

provide snacks (bagels, donuts, etc.) to the various buildings, in appreciation of their support.
Melissa Hart volunteered to draft a flyer for the group to review, and to work with Jenny to get
collection bins and arrange for pick -up, probably on a weekly basis.
Motion was made by Melissa Hart to have the Equity and Diversity Commission host a food
drive to benefit the Snack Pack Program for the month of May, 2016 and to authorize
expenditure of up to $200 for snacks or prizes for participating departments /buildings.
Seconded by Kathy Hougardy.

Other
Nate provided an update on the April 28 Career Day at Foster High School. About 48 guest
speakers have signed up, with about 35 table hosts for the event. Principal Larson is providing
some training to some of the presenters next week. The planning team expanded this year,
and Sabey has been a good partner, bringing students to meet with their graphic designer and
help design tee shirts and promotional materials for the event.
Joyce shared invitations to the Volunteer Appreciation event at TCC on April 14 and encouraged
Commissioners to attend.
Joan shared an update on the March 30 Intercultural Series movie shown at the PAC, which the
Commission helped sponsor. This film had a very low attendance and there were technical
difficulties showing the film. After about 20 minutes, they were able to get the film going again.
She felt the movie itself contained good information. The next film is April and hopefully will be
better attended by students and the public,
Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
