Upcoming Events
Joyce provided copies of the Intercultural Film Festival flyer to Commissioners, and will follow
up with an electronic version. Commissioners are encouraged to forward it to other groups and
people who would be interested in attending. Joyce will forward the flyer to the SoCo Culture
so they can advertise on their website, etc. The Commissioners felt this was very well aligned
with the goals of the Commission, and a very appropriate use of Commission budget.
Joyce shared a flyer regarding another upcoming film presentation at Foster's Performing Arts
Center, "Most Likely to Succeed ", sponsored by Academy Schools with a contribution from the
City. It is expected there will be other sponsorship contributions. The film will be shown on
Saturday, March 19 and a large attendance is expected from Tukwila as well as neighboring
jurisdictions.
Both of these events will be advertised and communicated through School District and City
channels. (Reporter, Hazelnut, websites, social media, etc.).
Nate provided an update on Career Day at Foster High School which will be held on April 28'
with the guest speaker portion starting at 12:30. After speaker presentations, all students will

go to the gym where they can meet with perspective employers, City staff, college recruiters
and others.
This year, Foster Principal Larson is encouraging speakers to head to the gym as well, so they
can talk further with students who are interested in various career paths. The event continues
to grow and expand each year, and is a "first step" in helping students connect with businesses
and business professionals in the community, learn more about potential career options, and
build relationships. Equity and Diversity Commissioners were encouraged to participate and
can get in touch with Nate for more information.
Commission Vacancies
Joyce provided Dr. King with an application form and we need to keep encouraging District staff
to consider a position on the Commission.
NEW BUSINESS
Natalie Hunter was invited to share any comments. She has lived in the community for 30
years, and currently works for Seattle Public Utilities. Her experience includes community
outreach across diverse communities and she felt there might be opportunities to work
together with the Commission in helping our Tukwila residents. She was encouraged to
consider one of the resident roles on the Commission, when a vacancy occurs. Joyce will send
her a schedule of 2016 meetings. Natalie206ec @gmail.com.
Snack Pack Program
The Commissioners discussed the idea that Melissa mentioned several months ago regarding
sponsoring a snack pack drive (instead of a book drive) this spring. Joyce will invite Jenny
McCoy to the April meeting to provide updates and share information about the program and
needs.
There was discussion regarding the change in staff at the Tukwila Food Pantry and that their
Board is determining next steps for the program, which supports a huge need in the
community.
Meeting adjourned at 6:00
