00 March 1, 2016 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
Call to Order: Chairperson Brian Kennedy called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m.
Attendance: Commissioners - Cynthia Chesak, Trisha Gilmore, Brian Kennedy, Steve Mullet, Daniel Humkey
Staff - Dave Johnson
Approval of Minutes: Trisha Gilmore moved to approve the minutes of February 2, 2016 meeting. Cynthia Chesak
seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Citizen Comment
Tukwila Resident Sheila Coppola introduced herself and is interested in applying to fill a vacant Arts Commission
position. Sheila and the Commission exchanged comments and questions.
Business Items
A. Arts Commissioner Summit Re -Cap — Commissioners provided a re -cap of the recent Arts Commissioner
Summit hosted by SoCo Culture at the Tukwila Community Center. Commissioners noted that the food was
amazing, the guest speakers provided very good information, and the breakout sessions were really good.
One of the many take -aways from the event was to have more of a presence at Council to stay relevant,
support the Arts, and show that Art improves a community.
B. Backyard Wildlife Art Show — Staff provided show information to the Commissioners. It was noted that
more hooks are needed for the art panels.
C. Arts 1% Implementation Update - Staff provided a brief update on implementing the 1% for the Arts fund in
Tukwila. Staff are finalizing the policy. The Finance Director will be setting up the fund.
D. Work Plan Development — Commissioners would like to add an annual presentation to City Council to the
work plan.
Other
A. Staff provided information to the Commission about the upcoming Tukwila School District Film Festival.
