Tukwila, Washington 98188 March 7, 2016 Jim Haggerton, Mayor The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service Commission: Steve Wheeler and Bruce Paquette. Others in attendance were Police Deputy Chief Bruce Linton, Interim Fire Chief Chris Flores and Kim Gilman, Civil Service Examiner. CALL TO ORDER 5:02 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES GENERAL BUSINESS: Chair Steve Wheeler called the meeting to order. The Chair asked if there were any corrections needed for the January 4th Commission Meeting minutes. No corrections were noted. Civil Service Training The Civil Service Examiner announced that the City of Puyallup is hosting a Civil Services Training for New Commissioners on March 17`h from 9:00am- 12:OOpm and other jurisdictions have been invited to attend. Steve DiJulio, of Foster Pepper PLLC will be the instructor. FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Chief Flores reported that the Fire Department is fully staffed and that they have 3 pipeline positions filled. He noted that one staff member is out on Long -Term Disability and that there is one on light duty. He then shared with the Commission the dates for the upcoming Fire Captain promotional testing process. POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Deputy Chief Linton reported that the Police Department is fully staffed and has 2 pipeline positions open. He noted that there are 2 candidates currently being backgrounded for these positions. Deputy Chief Linton announced that the Department recently hired a new Police Records Specialist which will bring that division up to full - staffing and that 2 officers are currently working light duty. Tukwila Washington 98188 g Jim Haggerton, Mayor Certification of Police Records The Civil Service Examiner presented an eligibility list for the Police Records Specialist position. The list contained 9 names and will be in effect for a 1 year period of time commencing on March 7, 2016 and ending March 6, 2017 or until depleted. MOVED BY PAQUETTE, SECONDED BY WHEELER THAT THE POLICE RECORDS SPECIALIST ELIGIBILITY LIST BE CERTIFIED. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Leave of Absence The Civil Service Examiner reported that Chief Villa recently approved a one year absence for a Detective. Notification of this 1 year absence without pay is being provided to the Commission in compliance with RCW 41.12.130. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Ron Johnston 2
