Adjourn Council President Joe Duffie Tukwila City Hall * 6200 Southcenter Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188' » 206- 433_1800 • Website: TukwiloWA.gov Ci�y olf Tukwila Allan Ekberg, o Mayor's Office -David Clime, City Administrator DRAFT MEETING MINUTES Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Meeting Date: May 25, 2016 Meeting Location: Tukwila Community Center, Meeting Room B Committee Members Present: Council President Joe Duffie, Meisa Berry (arrived at 3:30 PM), Jim Davis, Dan Lee, Owen Leinbach, Ben Oliver, Jamie Randall Committee Members Absent: Christian Trujillo, Nicole Grubbs Staff Present: David Cline, City Administrator; Laurel Humphrey, Council Analyst; Derek Speck, Economic Development Administrator; Brandon Miles, and Business Relations Manager Other Attendees: Ashley Comar and Megan McGuire, Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority; and Jeff Bauknecht, Museum of Flight Council President Duffie called the meeting to order at 3:06 p.m. 1. Welcome and Introductions - Council President Duffie welcomed the attendees and each person introduced themselves. 2. Approval of Agenda -Committee members approved the agenda with a 6 -0 vote. 3. Approval of Minutes- Committee members approved the minutes from the March 4, 2016 meeting with a 6 -0 vote 4. Revenue (Sales, Lodging, Parking and Admission) Collection Update - Brandon Miles presented charts showing the revenues. Jim Davis, Owen Lienbach and Jamie Randall commented on hotel revenues and discussed projections. 5. Marketing Committee, Stakeholder Outreach, and Influencers - Brandon Miles described the City's plans to create a committee to market Tukwila to day visitors and the new committee's role in developing the plans and assisting in outreach to all of the city's businesses, stakeholders, and influencers. Mr. Miles invited LTAC members to follow up with him on any thoughts and suggestions they have related to the marketing committee. 6. 2016 Lodging Tax Applications Presentations and Discussion - Brandon Miles introduced the applications requesting lodging tax from the following four organizations: Tukwila City Hall * 6200 Southceater Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188' + 06- 433 -1800 • CWebs te: Tukwllo WA.9ov DRAFT LTAC, May Minutes May, 2016 Page 2 • Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority ($337,500) Ashley Comar and Megan McGuire from Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority (SSRTA) presented information about SSRTA, including past performance and goals for 2016. LTAC members asked questions regarding ROI and sales mission. • Museum of Flight ($35,000) Jeff Bauknecht, Museum of Flight presented information on the Museum of Flight, including information on past attendance, projected 2016 attendance, information on Boeing's centennial and how City funds would be used in 2016. • Starfire Sports ($25,000) Ben Oliver presented information on Starfire Sports, its mission, and how funds would be used in 2016. • City of Tukwila ($90,000) Brandon Miles presented information on the City's revised application. He noted that the new request is lower than what staff requested in March. The funds would be used to develop a marketing plan, including a brand for day marketing. No funds would be used on ad buys in 2016, expect the possibility of doing ad buys to complete user surveys. 7. 2016 Lodging Tax Applications Review and Decision — Council President Duffie asked for a vote on the lodging tax applications. Owen Lienbach moved approval of all four applications (listed above). Ben Oliver seconded the motion. The LTAC approved the motion 7 -0. 8. Standing Meetings — Brandon Miles proposed that LTAC agree to standing meetings in order to have more predictability for members to plan their schedules. Standing meetings could be canceled if not needed. LTAC members expressed consensus for standing monthly meetings. Brandon Miles is to follow up with LTAC members to set dates. 9. Roundtable — Brandon Miles announced that Nicole Grubbs has resigned from the LTAC. Dan Lee mentioned the recent articles naming the City of Tukwila as the most dangerous city in the Country.
